The Commanders went down to Tampa and came away with a 23-20 victory. The win was a coming-out party for Commanders Quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was outstanding on national television. The victory was the cardiac kid’s sixth victory of the year on the final play of the game. The win set up a stiff test for the Washington Commanders at the Detroit Lions. Many pundits think the Lions will win the Super Bowl, so the game will be a good test for the Commanders. Even though the Commanders face a tough test, do you think the future is bright for them?
Washington Commanders Defeat Tampa Buccaneers 23-20
Daniels, the rookie phenom quarterback was 24-of-35 for for 268 yards and two touchdowns. He played great and was the difference in the win against Tampa. Austin Ekeler was the second-leading rusher for the Commanders and he caught three passes. He has been out with a concussion, and his return was a key to the Commanders’ victory. As the score indicates, the game was otherwise even. The Commanders quarterback was the key to the victory. The victory now sets up a visit to the top-seeded Detroit Lions.
Commanders Keys To Victory Against Detroit
Plain and simple, Daniels must play well at quarterback. He makes the offense hum. It is also imperative for the Commanders to get good play from both running backs. Washington needs to dominate time of possession to win in Detroit.
Washington would also benefit from hitting some big pass plays to their wide receivers or tight ends. The Washington defense must play well if the Commanders are to win in Detroit. They must contain the prolific Detroit offense. Washington cannot hurt themselves with turnovers and penalties.
Washington’s Important Players
The most important player for Washington is the rookie sensation at quarterback, though he has played enough at this point to not be considered a rookie. The best wide receiver in Washington has been Terry McLaurin, a Buckeye.
He must also play well as does Tight End Zack Ertz, who has revitalized his career in Washington. The entire Washington defense, particularly the defensive line, must play well. The entire Commanders roster is important as any of them can hurt the team with penalties or turnovers.
Lions Keys to Victory Against Washington
The Detroit Lions just need to keep doing what they have been doing, they are the top seed and the favorites to make the Super Bowl. The Lions have scored 50 points in two games and scored 40 points four times. 40 points should be good enough to win this game. The Lions need to continue being explosive on offense. Their team is also ravaged by injuries. Maybe they will get healthy by the Super Bowl. If that happens, look out.
Detroit’s Important Players
It all starts with Detroit Quarterback Jared Goff. He must play well. The Lions can rush the ball with Jahmyr Gibbs (Starter David Montgomery is listed as questionable). Wide Receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is a machine at wide receiver as is Sam LaPorta at tight end. They both need to do well against the Commanders.
Detroit has a Buckeye on the offensive line in Taylor Decker. Detroit needs to play well on defense to contain the explosive Washington offense. Detroit plays a base 4-3 defense and must overcome the 12 players they have on defense that are either out or on injured reserve. As the favorite, Detroit cannot hurt itself with penalties or turnovers.
Conclusion
This will be an interesting game. Detroit should win and the early line has the Lions favored by 8.5 points. Nevertheless, Washington can win this game with an exciting playmaker at quarterback. If the Commanders can contain the explosive offense, they may upset the Lions.
