The Colorado Buffaloes are entering their second season under “Primetime” Deion Sanders in 2024. After a disappointing first season, Colorado is anxious to get back to work in the fall. With many things surrounding the Buffaloes football program, players are deciding whether they will remain or leave current football teams. On Tuesday, one Colorado cornerback has entered the transfer portal.

Colorado Five-Star CB Is Entering The Portal

Five-star recruit Cormani McClain will take the option to join another team for this upcoming year. The Buffaloes are losing their top cornerback after last season. McClain did not see much action as a true freshman. This seems to be why the former Colorado defensive back is taking his talents elsewhere.

In 2023, Cormami McClain played in nine football games for the Buffaloes. Out of those that he played in, McClain started in just four of them. He finished the season with 13 tackles and two pass deflections in his short time with Colorado. The five-star prospect struggled in preparation as Deion Sanders was asked about Cormani McClain during a press conference last September.

Sanders told reporters in September 2023 when asked what McClain needed to improve on to see more playing time:

Study and prepare. Be on time for meetings, show up to meetings. Understand the scheme. I check film time from each player so I can see who’s preparing, so if I don’t see that, you would be a fool to put somebody out there who’s not prepared. That goes for all our players.

Amidst the down year for Colorado, they will have even higher expectations with one season in the books. The good news is that the Buffaloes football team and staff do have experience coming back in Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter.

The squad went below .500 with a record of 4-8. It was a better start as opposed to previous years. But, fans and media did not get the success that they thought would happen. Colorado has made some changes to its coaching staff for the new season. Deion Sanders has hired NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp as their new defensive coordinator.

This was a definite struggle after their early 3-0 start last year. The defensive side of the ball was not able to stop opponents from scoring at any point in 2023. With the Pac-12 no longer a part of the Power 5 as a conference. Colorado will be rejoining the Big 12 after 15 seasons. The competition will still be a tall task as every season is, but with the new staff changes and transfer players, it could result in more than eight wins in 2024!
