Colorado Buffaloes Get 0 Votes In AP Top 25 For Third Straight Week

Deion Sanders Colorado Buffaloes Top 25

The Colorado Buffaloes are coming off a thrilling victory over the Baylor Bears. They needed overtime and a Hail Mary to beat their Big 12 foe, but they pulled out the victory thanks to the strong play of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. The team now sits at 3-1 with the only loss being to Nebraska in the second week of action. Despite back-to-back victories, the team is getting no love from the voters of the AP Top 25. For the third straight week, the Colorado Buffaloes have received zero votes.

No Love For The Colorado Buffaloes

The AP College Football Poll came out Sunday morning but the Colorado Buffaloes were not on it. Voters were apparently not impressed with a last-second victory against Baylor and need to see more. Going into the year, Colorado was not ranked but did receive one vote in the preseason poll. The loss to Nebraska is still fresh in the minds of voters. The Buffaloes were dominated from start to finish in that game. Furthermore, their victories haven’t been dominant.

They needed everything from Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter in the opening game against FCS powerhouse North Dakota State. Coach Prime’s team took care of business against Colorado State but needed a miracle to beat Baylor on Saturday. They could easily be 1-3. However, in a wide-open Big 12, the team could start seeing some votes soon if they keep stringing together wins. The play has started to improve. Defensively, they are making more plays and making opposing offenses more difficult. While it seems unlikely the team will be in the national championship conversation; it is realistic to think this team could end the season in the rankings.

The Road Ahead

The Colorado Buffaloes have plenty of opportunities to impress the voters in the coming weeks. After a game against UCF next week, the team gets two weeks to prepare for Kansas State. Games against Utah and Oklahoma State are also on the schedule, but both games are at home. What is helping the team even more is the performances of the rest of the Big 12. The aforementioned Kansas State Wildcats got shellacked by BYU this weekend. The biggest threat is Utah after their victory against Oklahoma State, but they are far from being a perfect team.

In college football, it isn’t how you start the season; it is how you end it. We’ve seen many teams struggle at the beginning of the season only to figure it out and go on a run. There is no denying the Colorado Buffaloes have talent. Travis Hunter might be the most fun player to watch in college football. However, the team has to be more disciplined and not rely on miracles to win their games. If they can string together some more wins, Deion Sanders will be a number next to his team’s name in no time.
