Colorado Buffaloes Have Everything Go Right During Week 10 Bye Week

The Colorado Buffaloes had many good things happen this week, but they didn’t even play. Thanks to strong showings the past two weeks, the team is 6-2. More importantly, they only have one-loss in the Big 12 conference. Deion Sanders has already surpassed last year’s win total of four. They have already qualified for a bowl game, but that doesn’t stop there. Quietly, the Buffaloes are in a position to compete for the Big 12 especially after the results from Saturday.

Colorado Buffaloes Have Everything Go Right

The Colorado Buffaloes saw two of their Big 12 rivals lose on Saturday. Iowa State lost to Texas Tech at home, giving them their first loss of the season. Then, Kansas State lost by five to Houston on the road. It gave the Wildcats their second loss of the season. This was huge for Colorado because Kansas State owns the head-to-head tiebreaker. On top of this, the Buffaloes got to rest while everyone else helped them out. Travis Hunter has been dealing with nagging injuries and hasn’t been 100% the past two weeks. Other players were dealing with small injuries that piled up during the season as well.

BYU is the lone undefeated team in the Big 12. However, after that, it gets interesting. The Colorado Buffaloes are now tied with the Cyclones at 4-1 in the conference. Just behind them are Kansas State and Texas Tech at 4-2. If they can win out, they have a good shot at being in the title game. In looking at the schedule, the remaining games look much easier than they did a few weeks ago.

Remaining Schedule

The Colorado Buffaloes have four games left on their schedule, two at home and two on the road. A few weeks ago, some of the teams were ranked, but now, all of the remaining opponents are not. Deion Sanders is busy getting his team ready for Texas Tech. While they just upset Kansas State, the game is very winnable. The week after, Utah comes to Boulder. The Utes have been ravaged by injuries, especially at the quarterback position, leaving this team much different than what they were at the beginning of the season. They end the season with Kansas and Oklahoma State, two teams that are in free fall after high expectations in the preseason.

Deion Sanders has taken plenty of heat for his coaching job. However, it is important to recognize what he has been able to do with this team. In the first few games, the defense looked outmatched, but over the past few weeks, they have drastically improved. While they are not the favorite to win the national championship, they could be in a position to snag an at-large bid in the newly expanded College Football Playoff. No matter how you feel about Colorado and Deion Sanders, you have to admit that a postseason game with them would make for great television.
