The Minnesota Lynx defended the hardwood in Minneapolis on Friday night with an 87-74 win over the Las Vegas Aces. Napheesa Collier scored 27 points and a career-best 18 rebounds in an unstoppable performance against the defending WNBA Champions. Minnesota picked up victories in both games of a home-and-home series against Las Vegas this week opening a lead at the top of the Western Conference standings.
Las Vegas loses only their fourth road game of the season as that record now sits at 8-4. Overall, the Aces’ 17-11 record leaves them in third place by a slim one-game margin over the Phoenix Mercury. However, the win-loss record since returning from capturing a gold medal in France has been concerning.
Las Vegas continues the road trip with a Sunday afternoon matchup against Angel Reese and the scuffling Chicago Sky, while the Minnesota Lynx await a primetime matchup with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever tonight.
Minnesota Lynx Third Quater Offense Powers Win

The Minnesota Lynx entered the halftime break with a 40-39 lead following a pair of Napheesa Collier scores with the advantage at home. Minnesota stormed out to a 10-point lead in the third quarter between Collier and Alanna Smith. The two forwards combined for 25 rebounds which is difficult for any team, even a former World Championship one like Las Vegas, to stop.
The Las Vegas Aces trimmed the lead down to 4 points following a long-distance bucket from Jackie Young with a little more than six minutes to play. Unfortunately for the residents of Sin City, that would represent as close as they would get to the win and dropping their 11th game of the year.
A’ja Wilson scored 24 points after a disappointing shooting display at home earlier this week. Minnesota limited the guards to 23 points after allowing Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum to score 40+ points on Wednesday night.
Minnesota, Las Vegas on Vastly Different Streaks
The Minnesota Lynx enters a five-game winning streak after consecutive home wins against Washington and Las Vegas. The Lynx have captured all four games since the return from the 2024 Olympic breaks with 10+ point wins in each contest showcasing that the Western Conference currently runs through Target Center in Minnesota this fall.
The two-time reigning, defending WNBA Champions would like to say something about that. However, the Aces are 1-3 since returning from the Olympics break, and it’s pretty hard to “talk that talk” after consecutive losses. Before the month-long gap in the schedule, the Aces were on a heater with only two defeats over a 12-game stretch.
Las Vegas finds itself on the road for three of its next four games, and seven of its next nine contents barreling towards the end of the WNBA regular season. The team will need to regain their championship form away from Sin City to avoid falling further down the Western Conference standings from their third-place position.
Las Vegas Aces Wilson is Still on an MVP Trajectory
Following a 24-point performance last night in Minny, the Las Vegas Aces star forward continues her march towards the WNBA MVP trophy in 2024. A’ja Wilson leads the WNBA in scoring with an average of 27.3 points per game ahead of Phoenix’s Kahleah Copper (23.1-point average).
If that wasn’t enough, A’ja Wilson leads the WNBA in blocks with almost 3 rejections per game, while also contributing almost 2 steals/per game. Wilson is second in rebounding (12.0/game) behind rookie Angel Reese’s 12.3 rebounds recovered per contest.
With 12 games remaining the the 2024 WNBA season, Wilson has blitzed the league in 2024 and should likely receive a shiny new trophy at the season’s end for her months-long domination.
