Cole Palmer is one of the biggest names in the Premier League at the minute. The young Manchester City Academy graduate never got many minutes under Pep Guardiola’s reign, but as soon as he went to Chelsea, the doors opened for him. He began playing better, getting time on the pitch, and scoring goals that were crucial to the Blues’ success this year.
Due to his breakout season in the Premier League, he was called up to the full England national team squad for the Euro 2024 warmup campaign. And, not surprisingly, he stayed in the same form that he did the entire domestic league season and continued to score for club and country.
Cole Palmer Scores for England
Cole Palmer had his first international call-up to the senior England squad – and scored. Talk about a dream debut. England faced off against Bosnia in a Euro 2024 ‘warm-up’ game that helped both teams figure out starting lineups, playing styles, tactical decisions, and player selections moving forward. If Plane has anything to say about it, he made sure to cement his spot on the squad for the international competition.
Cole Palmer scored his first goal as a penalty spot kick for the England team, similar to how many of his goals were scored in the Premier League this year. His calm nature, cool attitude, and accurate technique make him one of the best penalty kick takers in the game at the minute in the footballing world.
At just 22 years old, Gareth Southgate might be in a tough spot when it comes to choosing players – but with Cole Palmer in fine form, it seems as though Southgate needs to pick the young midfielder over other more veteran or less experienced players.
‘I thought Cole linked the game well for us. Lovely for him to get his first goal.’
Compliments from the gaffer after your first England goal are a great way to go into a Euro 2024 tournament for Palmer.
England in the Euro 2024 Competition
But, the squad is far from finalized. Southgate realizes that they have only thirteen days before their first game but he needs to whittle down his extensive 33-man squad by seven players before the two weeks are up. That means he needs to tell seven talented players that they will not be representing their country in the upcoming competition.
As of now, the starting lineup was full of youngsters who played well in their domestic leagues and clubs this season, including Phil Foden from Manchester City who earned the POTY, Jude Bellingham from Real Madrid who won La Liga Player of the Year, and Bukayo Saka from Arsenal FC.
Some of the moves that make Cole Palmer so undeniable as a choice for the squad include his dribbling skills and awareness. Palmer was quick, energetic, and deft in his passes that left defenders in his wake. He also had great movement off the ball and connected well with the forward line in the second half.
Will Cole Palmer make the final squad? Maybe, if players are injured or veteran strikers are not in the picture. HE could take the spot of Jude Bellingham or Foden if they are not fit to play for the upcoming matches, but it all comes down to Southgate’s personal preferences and how he thinks polyester mesh on the team sheet.
