CM Punk has been in the news since returning to WWE. The 45-year-old WWE superstar had the goal of fighting in one of the main events of WrestleMania and, despite losing the Royal Rumble battle at the last moment, everything indicated that he was going to face Seth Rollins in the great event. However, a triceps injury cut short that plan.
Last week, CM Punk appeared on Monday Night Raw wearing a sling and confirmed his injury. Drew McIntyre showed up and beat him up, removing Punk completely from WWE programming and strengthening the Scot’s bad-boy image. Even though Punk can’t compete, that doesn’t mean he has another role on television.
New role for Former WWE Champion
Sean Ross Sapp, a Fightful journalist, has reported in the last few hours that CM Punk could take on the role of WWE commentator during his time off. Through an interview on the Podcast Wrestling Perspective podcast, Ace Seel, a close friend of CM Punk, assured that the fighter could perform that function very soon.
Ace Steel claims on this week's @WP_Pod on Fightful that WWE wants CM Punk to do commentary while he's sidelined.

“We’re told Punk was at Smackdown in Birmingham as he had surgery on the area the day before. Punk had also appeared at the Orlando Performance Center a couple of times to help out, which many believe could be related to their future.”
“However, Punk’s close friend Ace Steel might have let it slip on this week’s Wrestling Perspective Podcast premiering Tuesday on Fightful that WWE wants him as a commentator. During the show, Dennis Farrell asked Ace if “There was a role for Punk on WWE TV until he returns.”
“They want him as a commentator, they want him as a commentator, yes,” declared Ace Steel. “I don’t know if they’re going that route since they did an injury angle to get him out and the storyline about him; Drew steps on his arm. There’s that physical moment that puts him out of circulation. I don’t want to see him in an on-screen role.”
“Unless it’s on NXT or something. I don’t want to see him on the same show as Drew McIntyre because his only goal would be to go after Drew McIntyre.”

CM Punk as a commentator
The commentator position would not be something new for CM Punk. The former WWE Champion has already worked in that position on previous occasions for different companies. He began performing that role in IWA: Mid-South in 2005. In WWE he also worked as a commentator in 2010, a role for which he received very good reviews. In addition to being a commentator in the world of MMA, CM Punk also had the opportunity at the AEW table.
