Cleveland Cavaliers Evan Mobley In Midst Of a Career Year

Cleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland Cavaliers Power Forward Evan Mobley is having the best season of his career. He is averaging a career-best 18.9 points per game to go along with 8.9 rebounds and a career-high 1 steal per game. He is also 15th in the league in blocks per game.

Mobley has been a solid player since being drafted No. 3 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2021 NBA Draft. He finished second in Rookie of the Year voting and third in Defensive Player of the Year voting in his second season. Will Mobley be able to keep up his level of play as the Cleveland Cavaliers set their sights on history?

Cleveland’s success(33-5) approximately halfway through the regular season has been shocking. They were expected to be a strong team in the Eastern Conference, not put together one of the best starts in league history. Cleveland’s .868 winning percentage is the third-best in NBA history. They trail only the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls and the 2015-2016 Golden State Warriors for the best single-season winning percentage. The Oklahoma City Thunder this season have the fourth-best winning percentage in NBA history at .842.

Cleveland’s offense has been great this season. They are second in points per game and lead the league in field goal percentage and three-point percentage. Their defense has been middling this season. They are 11th in points allowed, 9th in opponent’s field goal percentage, and in the middle of the pack in opposing rebounds.

What makes this start for the Cleveland Cavaliers more impressive is the fact that Shooting Guard Donovan Mitchell is averaging his fewest points per game(22.8) since his rookie season. It has been a committee-like approach for Cleveland during its historically great start.

Final Thoughts

Cleveland did not look their best in yesterday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers. The Cavaliers lost 108-93 coming into the game winners of 12 straight contests. Cleveland begins a three-game road trip tomorrow. They have the chance to exact revenge on the Indiana Pacers before taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves.
