Cleveland Browns Sign Quarterback Joe Flacco To 1-Year Deal

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns signed veteran Quarterback Joe Flacco to a one-year $4 million contract Friday morning. He can make a maximum of $13 million with incentives. He is coming off a solid season with the Indianapolis Colts. He filled in for second-year Quarterback Antony Richardson on multiple occasions last season. He had 12 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Flacco is familiar with the Cleveland Browns. He won the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year with the organization and led them to the NFL Playoffs. Flacco reportedly received interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings before opting for a return to the Browns. Will he be able to experience success in Cleveland in 2025?

Cleveland Browns Offseason Summary

Flacco joins a quarterback room which includes Deshaun Watson and Kenny Pickett. Watson will be out for most, if not all of 2025, following a setback in his Achilles injury recovery. Pickett came to town after being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the offseason.

Cleveland has many holes on its roster to fill during the 2025 NFL Draft. They have the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming draft. With Watson’s injury woes, and poor play when healthy, Cleveland was one of the teams in the market for a quarterback in the draft. With Flacco signing with the Cleveland Browns, it seems the franchise is set at the position heading into the draft. This will allow Cleveland to draft the best overall player at No. 2. That could be either Colorado Wide Receiver/Cornerback Travis Hunter or Penn State Edge Abdul Carter.

Final Thoughts

Flacco’s signing with the Cleveland Browns crystalized the team’s plan at the quarterback position. Even though Flacco is not Cleveland’s long-term answer at quarterback, he can be a solid stopgap option until the team finds a better option.
