Former NFL running back, Cierre Wood, 33, was sentenced to life in prison today after a plea deal. After being indicted in 2019 with his girlfriend Amy Taylor,31. Wood negotiated with prosecutors over the deal for the death of Taylor’s five-year-old daughter. We look at the details of his sentencing and the unfortunate details of the autopsy report from Clark County, Nevada.

Cierre Wood, once an NFL running back for the Texans, Patriots, and Bills, will spend the foreseeable future behind bars. In June 2019 both Wood and his girlfriend, Taylor 31, were indicted for the murder of her daughter, La’Rayah Davis. Based on The Associated Press, today Wood was sentenced. He has the chance of parole after 10 years for the second-degree murder charge. For the child abuse charge, Clark County District Court Judge Jacqueline Bluth is also requiring Wood to serve 28 months and six years sequentially.
Wood Took An Alford Plea
Wood entered into an Alford plea, which is a situation where the defendant admits that the evidence the courts have would likely result in a guilty verdict if it were brought to trial. The defendant keeps their innocence if this option is taken. Meaning Cierre Wood never pleaded guilty to some of the charges. He pled that the prosecutors had enough evidence to attain a much harsher sentencing if it went to trial. The plea agreement then shows the prosecutors dismissing several felony counts of child abuse they had previously filed against Wood.
La’Rayah Davis’ father said there were red flags that were dismissed preceding his daughter’s death. He wishes Wood and Taylor received the death penalty, admittedly to Las Vegas Now.
Justice For La’Rayah Davis?
Amy Taylor moved La’Rayah and herself into Wood’s house, less than two weeks before her untimely death. Both Wood and Taylor admitted during the investigation to the police, that they used physical consequences as discipline. Also, emotional abuse like name calling and excessive exercise as punishment. Taylor, this year pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse, as part of her plea agreement with Clark County prosecutors.
The autopsy of La’Rayah Davis showed that the five-year-old had internal bleeding, multiple broken ribs, bruising of her abdomen, and also showed a laceration to her liver. While Wood, the former University of Notre Dame running back, will go to prison for his crime, he puts himself in a plea position where he retains partial innocence. That allows, when time served he would be able to get out of prison, on parole. Able to live free, after the egregious crimes that were committed against the innocent five-year-old: La’Rayah Davis.
Final Thoughts
According to the laws of Nevada, where Wood was charged, the second-degree murder punishment is 25 years in prison or life in prison (with the possibility of parole after 10 years). Although in line with his charges according to the state, it doesn’t feel comparable enough after knowing what La’Rayah Davis went through.
This poses the question: Would anything be enough of a consequence if your child was murdered?
Today Cierre Wood will begin to pay for the devastating choices he and Amy Taylor made. Sentenced to life in prison, Cierre Wood has plenty to think about.
