The Denver Nuggets are entering the homestretch of their 2023-2024 regular season. Despite an overtime loss to the Phoenix Suns on March 5, head coach Michael Malone’s team got back on track against the Boston Celtics on March 7. Guard Christian Braun was key to the Nuggets’ 115-109 victory over Jayson Tatum and company. He will prove to be their secret weapon en route to repeating as NBA champs this season.
Christian Braun: “Sunflower State” Beginnings
A Kansas native, Christian Braun attended the University of Kansas. Under the tutelage of legendary collegiate head coach Bill Self, Braun established himself as a force on both ends of the floor. In his three seasons as a Jayhawk, he helped Self’s squad capture two Big XII championships. In addition, Braun and the Jayhawks won the national championship in 2022. During his time in Lawrence, “The Lawyer” established himself as an elite defender and an avid shot-creator. The Denver Nuggets took note of his ability to defend and create for himself leading up to the 2022 NBA draft.
Early NBA Career Success
Christian Braun has a knack for playing well on basketball’s biggest stages. Starting in high school, Braun won three-consecutive state titles. As his basketball career progressed, the 22-year-old continued to stockpile accolade after accolade. Following the Nuggets’ victory over Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in last season’s NBA Finals, “The Lawyer” had arrived. He became only the fifth player in NBA history to win an NCAA national title and an NBA championship in back-to-back seasons. With NBA Finals MVP Nikola Jokic leading the way, Braun and the Nuggets will be legitimate title contenders for the foreseeable future.
Analyzing Christian Braun’s Ceiling
Players such as Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray ultimately receive the majority of the national media’s attention. However, Christian Braun will be integral to the Nuggets’ success in 2024 and beyond. With a little over a month left in the regular season, Braun and the Nuggets are looking to go on a run. Since the NBA All-Star game, Denver has a 7-1 record and currently sits one game back in the West. As the Minnesota Timberwolves will be without Karl-Anthony Towns for a significant period of time, now is the time for Malone’s team to string wins together. “The Lawyer” is the type of player who is capable of sparking a late-season playoff push. If Braun and the Nuggets execute down the stretch, they will capture their second-consecutive NBA title in 2024.
