Is Chris Godwin the answer for the Bucs? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won in week two against the high-powered and favored Detroit Lions 20-16. Even with the defense disrupting the offense, Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers fought off the Lions to secure the win on Sunday. The Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson led the team with sacks with 4.5 and had four tackles for loss. The Lions also stopped the Bucs from gaining over 100 yards in rushing. One of the reasons for new offensive coordinator Liam Coen joining the team.
There has been one player the Buccaneers have been going to that has benefited them in the past two games. In last week’s win against the Commanders, the Buccaneers gained 289 yards in passing. The Bucs QB hit seven different receivers during the previous week’s game. Even in that game, this player still showed up and showed out, leading the team in reception yards.
Chris Godwin
Chris Godwin is the Tampa Bay Buccaneer who has been their go-to in the past two weeks. In this week’s game against the Detroit Lions, Godwin gained 117 yards and one touchdown with seven receptions. For the past two weeks, Godwin has been the top receiver in yards and receptions for the Bucs. Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen’s first adjustment to the offense was putting Chris Godwin back in the slot position. As shown in the past two games, Godwin’s ability to play the slot position and utilize the free release has worked out for the Buccaneers.
With him catching the ball in our space to gain extra yards after the catch, Godwin’s 41-yard TD score catch was a great display of that. Before the start of the season, Coach Coen predicted for Chris Godwin to have a good season, saying this on the team’s website,
For the past couple of games, the connection from Mayfield to Godwin has been a positive weapon for the Buccaneers.
Does This Win Make The Bucs Contenders
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers feel they are contenders for another Super Bowl Championship. The Bucs have made moves during the offseason to secure their chances of completing such a task. Last year, the Buccaneers were knocked out of the NFC playoffs by the Detroit Lions, and after a good season that would have ended with a trip to the NFC Conference Championship and possibly the Super Bowl. The Bucs resigned quarterback Baker Mayfield and veteran wide receiver Mike Evans. Coach Liam Coen is still looking to revamp the Bucs run game; the run game has only been successful one out of the two games.
In the Bucs’ defense, there is still a lot of the season left so that they can work out the issues with the run game. If the Tampa Bay Buccaneers can get the run game performing like Chris Godwin is performing, then the Buccaneers could make their Super Bowl hopes come true. The Buccaneers have aspirations of a few rookies to do well this season; the Bucs still have weapons they could utilize against the league. One of the main issues for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is injuries. Defensive lineman Calijah Kancey has yet to start for the Buccaneers, and Vita Vea, defensive nose tackle for the Bucs, went out with a knee injury in the game against the Lions.

Chris Godwin has been the Buc’s hero when moving the offense along. Baker Mayfield showed again this week that he will give his all to the team, whether it’s throwing to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, running back Rachaad White on a screen, or just taking the ball himself and scoring. Mayfield will do what’s needed to get the Bucs to the playoffs and beyond. The next game for the Bucs will be against the 0-2 Denver Broncos.
