Chris Benjamin, a Warwickshire wicketkeeper-battler, has signed a three-year contract with Kent. Despite having just played one senior T20 for the Birmingham Bears, 25-year-old Benjamin gained notoriety when he was selected as a replacement player during the 2021 Hundred. After helping Birmingham Phoenix over the finish line with a score of 24 from 15 balls, he played a significant role in the competition’s first three seasons.

Benjamin had ten appearances for the county at an average of 22.23, but he only got a few opportunities in the longer format. Chris Benjamin also struck a century in his first-class debut for Warwickshire. His arrival will increase Kent’s options regarding wicketkeeping since Sam Billings has signed a white-ball contract while Ollie Robinson and Jordan Cox have also left over the past two seasons. This summer, Harry Finch has been the team’s keeper in the Championship cricket.

Chris Benjamin’s Background

Chris Benjamin was born in South Africa, but since relocating to study in 2018, he has played in the UK and is a British passport holder through his father. He currently plays batting for a renowned team to further his career. “We’re delighted to have attracted a player of Chris’ talent to Kent on a long-term contract,” Kent’s director of cricket, Simon Cook, said. “He is still a young player with a lot of potential to improve further, and we’re pleased to Kent to be the place for him to do so.”

Chris Benjamin also expressed his pleasure in joining Kent and the opportunity to play frequently in a variety of formats. Earlier this month, Kent was demoted in the Country Championship and finished bottom of Division One. They also finished last in the South Group of the Vitality Blast and eighth in Group A of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

Chris Benjamin Strong Debut

Chris Benjamin was given a rookie contract by the Bears after making an impression for the team’s second XI. He immediately made an impression, scoring 60 on his professional T20 debut, a further fifty-seven against Glamorgan in his first One-Day Cup match, and a career-high 127 on his Warwickshire County Championship debut. He signed a contract with Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred as a result.

Chris Benjamin also averaged 37 points a game to help the Midlands team advance to the championship game. Since then, he has fluctuated in shape. Despite hitting 83 runs without conceding a run in his debut when he went out on loan to Durham at the end of the 2022 season, he has only amassed 378 runs in 10 first-class matches. In addition, he has scored 260 runs in 11 One-Day Cup games and 753 runs in 47 T20 Blast games for the Bears. He was a member of the side that lost four straight quarterfinals, three of which were at home and the first of which was actually against Kent at Canterbury in August 2021.
