Week 3 of the NFL season is here, and the Kansas City Chiefs are in their mid-week prep for their Sunday Night Football matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The Chiefs are coming off two weeks of narrow victories, but those wins came at a cost, as the Chiefs have had to make some roster changes recently because of it. As they head into this game with some new personnel, let’s first take a look at this week’s injury report to see which players are in and out for Sunday.
Chiefs Injuries for Week 3

The Chiefs’ injury report for this week came out on Wednesday and listed five players: defensive end Mike Danna (quad), cornerback Nazeeh Johnson (hamstring), defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (triceps), defensive tackle Mike Pennel (groin), and wide receiver Xavier Worthy (quad). All players were able to be full participants in practice on Wednesday despite their injuries, the same holds true for today, with everyone listed here also being on track to play on Sunday.
Most recently, running back Isiah Pacheco was taken off the injury report and placed on injured reserve. Pacheco joins wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire as the next offensive player on the Chiefs to be added on IR this season.
Isiah Pacheco’s Status
Isiah Pacheco suffered his injury last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth quarter after a run up the middle. He was gang-tackled by multiple Bengals defenders and landed awkwardly, which caused his injury. Pacheco left the stadium on crutches and in a boot, visibly emotional.
Fast forward to yesterday, Pacheco underwent successful surgery on the fibular fracture, with no additional complications or ligament damage. His current timeline to return is at least six weeks, with a potential recovery period of up to eight weeks.
Final Thoughts
With three core offensive players on IR, the rest of the team remains as healthy as possible in NFL terms. This will be crucial as the Chiefs head on the road to Atlanta to face a formidable Falcons team with playmakers on both sides of the ball.
Despite the recent injuries, the Chiefs are approaching this game as business as usual. After back-to-back wins over two of the AFC’s top contenders, they now face a Kirk Cousins-led Falcons team fresh off a thrilling walk-off victory.
On defense, the Chiefs will have to prepare for the likes of Bijan Robinson, Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Darnell Mooney. The Falcons’ defense has stars like Matthew Judon and A.J. Terrell who will be crucial to stop in Atlanta for Kansas City. Not to mention their All-Star Jessie Bates, who made the game-sealing interception against the Philadelphia Eagles.
As both teams prepare for their second prime-time game of the season, the key question is whether Cousins and the Falcons can continue their momentum or if Patrick Mahomes and company will spoil Cousins’ prime-time party. We’re just a few days away from finding out.
