Kansas City Chiefs Extend Tight End Noah Gray For 3 Years

Chiefs lock up Noah Gray

Only a few hours before the Kansas City Chiefs kickoff the start of the 2024 NFL Season they have come to an agreement with Tight End Noah Gray on a three-year, $18 million extension that includes $10.1 million fully guaranteed at signing, as reported by Adam Schefter via X.

Gray was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He signed his four-year rookie contract on May 13, 2021, and scored his first career NFL touchdown against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 10 on “Sunday Night Football.” Gray appeared in all 16 games of his rookie year, starting in one, and finishing with seven receptions for 36 receiving yards and a touchdown.

In the 2022 season, Gray appeared in all 17 games, starting in eight. He totaled 28 receptions, 299 receiving yards, and one touchdown. Gray became a Super Bowl champion when the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, where he had one reception for six yards.

The now two-time Super Bowl champion is coming off his best season yet with the Chiefs. In 2023, he played all 17 games, tallying 28 receptions, 305 yards, and two touchdowns. Gray also had two receptions for 22 yards when the Chiefs won their second straight Super Bowl, beating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

Looking Ahead For Noah Gray

Gray is currently tight end No. 2 on the depth chart for the Chiefs. Receiving this deal makes him a part of this team beyond the current deal Travis Kelce has, which has him extended until the 2025 season. This means Gray will likely serve as a bridge player if Kelce decides to retire after the next two seasons. Gray could step into the starting role while the Chiefs’ rookie tight end, Jared Wiley, continues to acclimate to the Chiefs’ system.

He could find himself elevated as the Chiefs next tight end No.1 depending on his progression with the team moving forward. Either way Gray will likely serve as a kind of mentor to Wiley since it’s likely he will not be seeing considerable playing time as long as Kelce and Gray are healthy.

Final Thoughts

Although Gray may not be a household name nationwide, he’s certainly a vital piece for the Chiefs’ offense, as proven by this extension. Whether or not Kelce continues with the team beyond 2025, the Chiefs value Gray as a key player, both on and off the field. Gray will continue to serve as the ideal “glue guy” while Wiley matures within the organization and prepares to take on a bigger role in the future.
