In the third quarter, the Chiefs defense remained dominant, forcing the Chargers to miss a 55-yard field goal. Kansas City took advantage of the stop and marched down the field, settling for a 37-yard field goal by Butker to tie the game at 10-10 with 6:26 left in the third.
Kansas City’s defense came up huge in the fourth quarter, stopping the Chargers on a 14-play, 67-yard drive that stalled at KC’s 3-yard line. On the ensuing possession, the Chiefs marched down the field, highlighted by a 29-yard reception by Tight End Noah Gray. Kareem Hunt also contributed with hard running, and Samaje Perine capped off the drive with a 2-yard touchdown, giving the Chiefs a 17-10 lead.
Chris Jones recorded his second sack of the game on the Chargers’ next possession, forcing another LA punt. From there, the Chiefs controlled the clock, with a 15-yard catch by Worthy effectively sealing the win. The Chiefs defense forced seven consecutive scoreless drives to close out the game, solidifying the victory.
Final Thoughts
Despite early offensive struggles, Kansas City’s defense and timely plays from Mahomes and the offense, allowed the team to survive another week. The Chiefs are now 4-0, and while the offense has yet to fully hit its stride, the defense continues to carry the load in critical moments.
