Chicago White Sox “Actively Seeking Packages” For Star Outfielder

Chicago White Sox are on a historically awful pace.

The Chicago White Sox are having a season to forget in 2024. They hold the MLB’s worst record by a considerable margin. However, a bad season is simply a time for a team to reload. In baseball especially, the trades that are made now can propel a team to winning in the future. The White Sox hope to unload some of their talent and get young prospects to rebuild the team. Reports indicate the team is seeking trade packages for center fielder Luis Robert Jr.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post went through a list of ten players that are rumored to be traded. He reported that there is a good chance that the Chicago White Sox trade center fielder, Luis Robert Jr.

“The White Sox are actively seeking packages for Robert, and with two team options at a club friendly $20 million and just $63M to go through 2027 (assuming the options are exercised), he combines control and talent like no one else out there,” Heyman wrote. “Worry over injury history is the negative heard. But many need outfielders (Dodgers, Phillies, Royals, etc.) Chances to be dealt: Good.”

There are a couple of factors that make this trade likely. Many contenders need outfielders. The Los Angeles Dodgers are all in and will do anything they can to win a World Series ring. Other contenders want to maximize their window. Luis Robert Jr. is also on a very friendly deal, meaning the financial burden of trading for him is not as big. It would make perfect sense for the Chicago White Sox to maximize his value.

Likely Suitors

I’ve already mentioned the Los Angeles Dodgers and they are definitely in the mix. The Phillies are another likely landing spot as their current center fielder, Johan Rojas, is only hitting .234 on the season. There are some dark-horse candidates that could get in the mix, depending on how the rest of June goes. The Cleveland Guardians have been red hot, but many wonder whether the offensive pace is sustainable with the current group. They could sneak into the mix to try and steal a World Series.

Regardless of where he goes, the Chicago White Sox should trade Luis Robert Jr. and as many players as possible. The team is going nowhere in 2024, and it is time to prepare for the future. We’ve seen other teams in the position that the White Sox are currently in. They have been able to acquire prospects and compete in a few years. If the squad from the south side wants to be relevant again, they need to maximize the value of their current roster.
