Chicago White Sox Break MLB Record With 121st Loss

Chicago White Sox

The 2024 season is one that the Chicago White Sox are going to want to put in their rearview mirror as they officially became the team with the most losses in MLB history. They have a 39-121 record with Friday’s loss on the road against the Detroit Tigers to put the cherry on the sundae. There are a lot of things that led to the Chicago White Sox getting their record-breaking 121st loss. Let’s take a look at their season and how this came to be.

At the beginning of Septmember, the Chicago White Sox lost their franchise-record 107th loss, passing the 1970 team’s total. With the Negro Leagues now counting into MLB stats, there is technically one team with more losses as the 1899 Cleveland Spiders lost 134 games, but the 1962 New York Mets as a new team lost 120 games and now lose the record. The 2024 Chicago White Sox did a lot of things to themselves to look towards the future and completely abandon this year’s team, such as trading way Eloy Jimenez.

This White Sox team has been terrible at the plate with a .618 team OPS and scoring 3.09 runs per game. On the mound, they are pitching to a 4.71 team ERA as well so things are not looking good. The team made a manager change, having Grady Sizemore become the interim manager. This is a franchise that made the ALDS in 2021 and went 81-81 in 2022 to bottom out this much now.

There is some talent in the Chicago White Sox team as starting pitcher Garrett Crochet had a dominant beginning to the season and center fielder Luis Robert Jr. has shown the ability to step up and be a quality hitter. For a team with three World Series championships, six pennants, and 11 playoff appearances, this is going to be what people think about: the 2024 Chicago White Sox.
