The WNBA signed a decent amount of rookies in their last draft pick who have contributed to the league’s outlook. One of these rookies is Angel Reese who plays for the Chicago Sky.
The Chicago Skys are 8th seed overall in the WNBA regular season recording 4-for-7 in 11 games. Angel Reese’s contribution to the Sky can’t be overlooked as she brings in the same energy and consistency from her college basketball experience.
Could she win the WNBA Rookie of the Year award?
Angel Reese at LSU Tigers Before The WNBA Draft
Angel Reese wasn’t just good among her college basketball teammates, she was outstanding. The Sky Foward’s outstanding performance in college basketball makes her a matchup with Caitlin Clark, who currently plays for the Indiana Fever (4-10).
At LSU Tigers, Reese was known as the double-double queen. The 22-year-old forward got that nickname as praise from an elite LSU alum Sylvia Fowles who had a record of 193 double-doubles with the LSU team. Tina Charles who has the second most double-double praises this up-and-coming All-Star player. According to Reese:
“She [Tina Charles] told me, ‘You are doing a great job out there.’ She respects me. After the game she was telling me to take my time when finishing around the basket. She shows love to me, she respects me.”
The 6’ 3 Forward rivalry with the Indiana Fever’s guard Caitlin Clark started in college basketball when the LSU Tigers beat the Iowa Hawkeyes in the NCAA Championship in 2023. She averaged 18.6 points and 12.3 rebounds playing 116 college basketball games. Thus, with her exemplary performance on the court, she got drafted into the WNBA first round as the seventh pick of the Chicago Sky.
Reese Performance At Chicago Sky
The 2024-25 WNBA season is still fresh with the Chicago Sky fourth in the Eastern Conference topped by Connecticut Sun, New York Liberty, and Atlanta Dream.
Out of 10 games played with the Chicago Sky, Reese bagged a double-double performance in eight games in points and rebounds. Though she has some setbacks on the court, her explosive performance on Wednesday against the Connecticut Sun became the sight of attraction.
The Sky played against the Connecticut Sun and lost by an eight-point margin. Despite this loss, the Sky Forward’s contributions and improved performance stood out as she scored 20 points, and grabbed 10 rebounds while shooting 50% field goals. That’s another double-double!
The Sky will face the Washington Mystic on Friday and Indiana Fever – Reese’s rival team – on Sunday.
Caitlin Clark vs. Angel Reese Performance in the 2024-25 WNBA Season
After an outstanding performance against the Connecticut Sun, Reese attracted eyeballs to her game. The 6’ 3 footer struggled with finishing in the paint despite claiming eight double-doubles since the beginning of the 2024-25 season.
Caitlin Clark who has been the life of the party at the WNBA league is ranked as the No. 1 rookie from the 2024 WNBA Draft. The Indiana Fever guard records 15.6 points 6.0 assists, 4.9 rebounds. However, her weakness lies in her turnovers. Regardless of that, she’s a phenomenal player who was drafted as the No. 1 pick for the Indiana Fever.
After Reese, 22, records 100 points and 100 rebounds, which makes her the first amongst her draft classmates to reach that milestone, Reese becomes the No. 1 rookie from the 2024 WNBA Draft. She is currently averaging 12.4 points 9.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists for the Sky.
