Chicago Cubs Dynamic Duo Powers Team To Victory

Chicago Cubs led by two great performances.

The Chicago Cubs defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-4 last night on the road at Dodger Stadium thanks to two spectacular performances at the plate. Right Fielder Cody Bellinger went 2-of-4 with 3 RBI and First Baseman Michael Busch went 4-of-5 with 3 RBI. This dynamic duo also combined for two home runs and their six combined RBI was enough to lead the Chicago Cubs to victory on Monday night.

Chicago’s offense took advantage of Los Angeles Dodgers Starting Pitcher Walker Buehler and tagged him for five earned runs over five innings. Buehler continued his miserable 2024 season as he now has a 5.95 ERA. The Cubs offense was great on Monday night scoring in five half innings last night. Will the Chicago Cubs be able to carry this momentum into their upcoming games?

Chicago Cubs Season Summary

The Chicago Cubs(74-70) have hoovered around .500 over the second half of the regular season. Chicago has played better as of late winning 10 of their last 14 ballgames. This included a combined no-hitter on September 4 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Even with their hot streak, the team’s playoff chances are on life support. The Cubs have a 1.7% chance to make the MLB Playoffs according to FanGraphs.

Chicago’s offense has been average this season. They are 18th in batting average, 20th in home runs, and 13th in runs scored. Their offense is paced by Right Fielder Seiya Suzuki and Left Fielder Ian Happ. Suzuki leads the team in batting average while Happ leads them in home runs and RBI.

The pitching staff of the Chicago Cubs has been the stronger part of their team this season. They are sixth in ERA, 15th in strikeouts, and 10th in opposing batting average. Their pitching staff is led by rookie sensation Shota Imanaga. He is top 15 in the league in wins, ERA, and WHIP. Starting Pitcher Jameson Taillon has also been strong this season. He is 10-8 with a 3.57 ERA.

Cubs Upcoming Schedule

The Chicago Cubs play the middle game of their three-game set tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers. They remain out on the West Coast after playing in Los Angeles to visit the Colorado Rockies for a three-game series beginning on Friday. Chicago’s schedule is weak once they return home from the Rockies series.

They begin a seven-game homestand next week against the Oakland Athletics and Washington Nationals, two of the league’s worst teams in 2024. Chicago will need to virtually go undefeated to have a chance at making the MLB Playoffs or miss out on October baseball for the fourth consecutive season.
