The Chicago Cubs designated Relief Pitcher Hector Neris for assignment yesterday. The veteran pitcher has already cleared waivers and is free to sign with another MLB team for the rest of the 2024 season. Relief prospect Jack Neely, the No. 18 prospect in the farm system of the Chicago Cubs, was promoted from Triple-A Iowa to make his MLB debut. It has been an inconsistent 2024 season in “The Windy City ” for Neris. He has had a miserable month as he has a putrid 5.68 ERA in August. He had a stellar 1.13 ERA in July. What a difference a month makes.
Neris is 8-4 this season with a 3.89 ERA having converted 17-of-22 save opportunities. He is 22nd in the league in saves. With the Chicago Cubs deciding to get a closer look at one of their top prospects, and with Neris clearing waivers, which team will sign Neris for the home stretch of the 2024 regular season?

Neris signed a one-year $9 million contract with the Chicago Cubs this offseason. He has a career record of 41-40 with a 3.29 ERA and 106 saves.
Chicago Cubs Season Summary
Chicago(62-64) is in second place in the National League Central and 5.5 games back of the third and final National League Wild Card spot. The offense of the Chicago Cubs has not been good this season. They are 24th in batting average, 22nd in home runs, and 20th in runs scored. Their offense is paced by Center Fielder Cody Bellinger and Left Fielder Ian Happ. Bellinger is 20th in the league in batting average while Happ leads the Chicago Cubs in home runs and RBI.
The pitching staff of the Cubs has been stellar this season. They are fourth in ERA, 13th in strikeouts, and 11th in opposing batting average. Chicago’s pitching staff is led by Starting Pitcher Shota Imanaga. He leads the ballclub in wins, ERA, and strikeouts and is ninth in the league in ERA and 12th in WHIP.
Conclusion
Even though the tenure of Hector Neris ended prematurely with the Chicago Cubs, he will be a solid signing for a team still in the playoff picture. He has World Series experience that will surely allow him to be an asset to another team.
