The Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks will make their Summer League debut on July 13 at the Cox Pavilion Center. We’d get to see two-season and three-season players with rookies match up against each other.

The Chicago Bulls team will be led by Billy Donovan III, the G League head coach for the Windy City Bulls. Also, Bulls fans should be excited to see their 2024 NBA Draft pick, Matas Buzelis make his debut for the club. Some headliners of the Bulls’ summer league roster include Julian Phillips, Marcus Domask, and Adama Sonogo.

The Milwaukee Bucks will feature their second-round and first-round rookie from the 2024 NBA Draft. Also, the Bucks fans would like to know how well their two-season player, MarJon Beauchamp, improved since his 2022 draft and contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. The head coach of the Bucks’ summer league team is Pete Dominguez, who is part of the assistant coach at the Bucks franchise.

Matas Buzelis drags the Bulls fans to their seats as they anticipate watching him battle against the Milwaukee Bucks. Before being drafted by the Bulls in the 2024 NBA Draft, Buzelis’ performance on the court as a college athlete and NBA G League Ignite player was good. Also, his defensive abilities and shooting competence make him a potential 3-and-D prospect.

The 19-year-old forward played one season at Sunrise Christian Academy and averaged 15.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks, making 53.7% on the field and 43.1% beyond the arch. Buzelis remained consistent while playing 26 games for the G League Ignite. The Hinsdale native averaged 14.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks, shooting 44.5% in field goals per game.

The Mali native, Adama Sonogo, who is on a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls, will be pushing to earn a standard NBA contract that will put him on a roster fulltime. In his debut season at the Chicago Bulls (2023-24), the 6’9 center averaged four points and rebounds in 7.3 minutes of performance. However, playing 29 games in the G League, Adama averaged 22 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game; making 61.5% on the field. The 22-year-old center should offer the Bulls’ roster an advantage over the Bucks on both sides of the court.

Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks drafted AJ Johnson with their No. 23 draft pick slot in 2024. Johnson played guard at the Illawarra Hawks in the Australia League where he averaged 2.9 points and 1.3 rebounds in 26 games. Also, the 6’ 5 guard averaged 37% from the field with a below-average three-point stat. This Summer League exhibit would be his chance to show the Bucks fans his performance potential.

Drafted from the G League Ignite team, we have Tyler Smith, who will go against former teammate Matas Buzelis. Smith was the 2024 second-round overall pick for the Milwaukee Bucks. The 6’ 11″ forward played at Overtime Elite where he averaged 15.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game; shooting 47.5% in field goals. Coming to the G League Ignite team he played 27 games to average 13.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and a block; shooting 36.4% in threes and 47.6% on the field. The 19-year-old shooting consistency should give more depth to the offensive playbook of the Bucks’ team.

Possible Breakout Player of the Game

Chicago Bulls

Julian Phillips should be the Bulls player to watch out for. Phillips will try to earn a strong spot in the Bulls roster next season; therefore, this is his chance to prove his worth. The 6’ 8″ forward was drafted as the Bulls’ No. 35 overall pick in 2023. In his debut season (2023-24), Phillips played 40 games to average 2.2 points in 8.1 minutes of performance. However, playing four games at the G League (2023-24) the 20-year-old forward averaged 16.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and a block per game; shooting 50% in field goals and three points.

Milwaukee Bucks

For the Bucks, the two-season player, MarJon Beauchamp could be a top performer in this debut game with NBA and G League experience. The 23-year-old forward appeared in 100 games for the Bucks where he averaged 4.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in 13.2 minutes of performance. In the G League, the 2022 No. 24 overall pick showed improvement in his game as he averaged 24.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in the 2023-24 season in three games. The 6’ 7″ forward has the potential of having an explosive debut game against the Bulls.
