Chicago Bears “Wins-day” Injury Report Week 2

Chicago Bears

Don’t worry, be happy. Every little thing is going to be alright. It’s the win-jury report from Wins-day’s Chicago Bears’ practice. Part of the injury report we can usually expect, like this week with WR Rome Odunze being listed as a DNP with an MCL sprain suffered in Sunday’s game. But, there always seems to be a part of the report that isn’t anticipated – making Hump-day news.

Leftovers From Last Week

A few familiar faces remain on the report from week one, like WR Keenan Allen. He was listed as a DNP today for the heel injury he’s been nursing for several weeks. Allen was an LP on Wednesday last week, so it is a bit concerning – but this could also be more of a veteran rest day than his heel keeping him out. Let’s watch his status for the next two practices, but as long as he can get a full practice in on Friday, he should be OK to travel with his Chicago Bears teammates to Houston for Sunday night showdown with the Texans.

Offensive linemen Kiran Amegadjie (quad) and Ryan Bates (shoulder/elbow) are on the report again this week. Bates saw 38 snaps of playing time at right guard for the Chicago Bears against the Titans, rotating with Nate Davis who had 18. Kiran Amegadjie did not see playing time in the game and both he and Bates were listed as limited participants in practice today.

A few defenders from last week are on the list again this week. DT Zacch Pickens is still trying to recover from a groin injury suffered several weeks ago, and was a limited participant in today’s practice. Pickens would be a big boost to the Chicago Bears’ run defense this week against the Houston Texans if he can heal up before Sunday.

Starting DE DeMarcus Walker popped up on the report late last week with a groin injury, but played a great game on Sunday. On Wednesday he was listed with a foot injury and did not participate in practice. This is a bit worrying because he did go into the blue injury tent during the game last Sunday at Soldier Field. Walker would be a huge loss for the Chicago Bears’ D-line if he can’t get healthy for the trip to Houston.

Newcomers to the Report

Glorified offensive lineman, FB Khari Blasingame, was added to the list with injuries to his hand and knee and was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. Blasingame was only on the field for 12% of the snaps on offense but was a key contributor on special teams for the Chicago Bears, playing on 48% of snaps in the kicking game.

Rookie WR Rome Odunze (knee) was the most known commodity we knew would be on today’s injury report. Odunze played more snaps on offense in the game against the Tennessee Titans than anyone else on the injury report, with 43. He finished the game with four targets, one catch, and a fumble. Not ideal numbers for the Chicago Bears’ 9th overall pick in this year’s draft.

Final Thoughts

It won’t be surprising if we don’t see WR Rome Odunze play in Houston this week. The offense should be OK without the rookie for a game or two while his knee heals. But, if fellow WR Keenan Allen also misses that game, the Chicago Bears offense could be in trouble in Primetime this Sunday. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen and the defensive line can also get healthy for a big game on SNF.
