Chicago Bears Set To Interview Pete Carroll For Head Coach Position

Chicago Bears

According to ESPN Insider Dan Graziano, the Chicago Bears are set to interview Super-Bowl winning Head Coach Pete Carroll on Thursday to be their next head coach. Carroll has 18 years of NFL coaching experience including stints with the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and Seattle Seahawks. He won Super Bowl XLVII as Seahawks head coach and lost the following year’s Super Bowl to the Brady-Belichick New England Patriots.

Carroll has a 170-120-1 career NFL record and was extremely successful as the USC Head Coach winning the 2004 National Title. He was not coaching in the NFL during 2024 as he was fired by the Seahawks following the 2023 season. Carroll is set to teach a class at USC during the spring semester. His name has been linked to multiple head coaching openings, but the Chicago Bears are the first team to formally interview him. Who will the Chicago Bears hire him as their next head coach?

Chicago Bears Cast a Wide Net For Their Next Head Coach

It was a disappointing regular season for the Chicago Bears as rookie Quarterback Caleb Williams was viewed as the savior of a beleaguered franchise. Instead, they finished the season 5-12 and fired Head Coach Matt Eberflus following a 4-8 start. Chicago appointed Thomas Brown as the interim head coach for the remainder of the regular season.

Carroll is far from the only high-profile candidate being interviewed by the Chicago Bears to be their head coach. Some candidates the Bears are planning to speak to are Detroit Lions OC Ben Johnson, Lions DC Aaron Glenn, Denver Broncos DC Vance Joseph, and Vikings DC Brian Flores. According to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter, Chicago also requested permission to interview Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy. Dallas denied the Bears permission to allow the sides to speak.

Final Thoughts

Carroll is the oldest, 73, and the most accomplished candidate the Chicago Bears will be interviewing this cycle. It is rare that a coach as successful as Carroll is on the open market. He would be a wonderful fit for the Chicago Bears, but the team must decide if they want a head coach of Carroll’s age leading Williams. It has been the trend to pair a young head coach with a young quarterback and let the two grow alongside one another. Whether Carroll is hired by the Chicago Bears or not, he is by far the best candidate on the market.
