When it rains, it pours. Bad things happen in threes. If it weren’t for bad luck, there wouldn’t be any luck. These adages apply to Chicago Bears Nation following the Week 8 debacle in Landover, MD, and ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Arizona. The Chicago Bears must add depth and talent to their struggling offensive line before the NFL Trade Deadline if they want to have a chance to salvage their season.
No Reinforcements This Week
The Chicago Bears offense could be in for a long day at the office on Sunday, November 3. Kickoff is at 3:05 CST after Daylight Savings Time ends at 2:00 a.m. that morning, giving NFL teams an extra hour of rest and preparation. And boy, do the Chicago Bears need it. The Bears’ O-line will be down their starting Left Tackle Braxton Jones with a knee injury and down their backup Left Tackle Kiran Amegadjie with a calf injury. Enter, fourth-year journeyman OL Larry Borom who has not played a down of football this season after spending the first eight weeks on IR. Another backup lineman, Bill Murray, took Borom’s place on IR.
Borom will be starting in a crucial NFC matchup at arguably one of the most important positions on the field, left tackle. Borom grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and played college football at Missouri. The Chicago Bears drafted Borom in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Borom has started 17 games for the Bears in his career at right tackle in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, he filled in at several positions on the O-line, showing his versatility just like he did in college where he primarily played right tackle, but filled in at left tackle and guard. Right Guard Matt Pryor will backup Borom and Doug Kramer Jr. will backup Pryor.
Deals At the Deadline
Which player(s) is Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles targeting to add before the 2024 NFL Trade deadline on Tuesday, November 5 by 3:00 p.m. CST? Cleveland Browns’ All-Pro guard, Wyatt Teller, is the latest name being linked with a trade to the Chicago Bears. The Bears are trying to trade demoted guard Nate Davis and are willing to eat some of his $8 million salary to get a deal done. Teller would replace Matt Pryor at right guard for the Chicago Bears, freeing Pryor up to go back to playing tackle, his natural position given his size and skill set. Pryor can play left or right tackle as a backup or replacement for Darnell Wright.
Conclusion
The Chicago Bears have several other issues along with the woeful offensive line. We can also anticipate the Bears addressing their defensive line before the trade deadline. Pass rushers Chase Young of the sputtering New Orleans Saints and Za’Darius Smith of the Cleveland Browns have also been linked to the Chicago Bears as possible trade candidates.
Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus and Offensive Coordinator Shane Waldron need to look in the mirror and get input from their players and other coaches or executives for ideas on how to fix this talented offense before it’s too late.

I’ll be interested to see if they do add some depth before the trade deadline. Good luck today in Glendale, should be a good game to watch.
