The Chicago Bears have never been able to solve their quarterback problem as a franchise. Throughout the team’s history, they have struggled to find a quarterback to lead the offense. In the early 2020s, the team thought they had their future signal-caller in former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. However, things didn’t pan out, and the team traded Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now that Fields is gone, reports have come out about his struggles. One bombshell report detailed a toxic quarterback room during the 2021 season.
Chicago Bears: Justin Fields And Nick Foles Toxic Relationship
During the 2021 season, the Chicago Bears had a quarterback room of Justin Fields, Nick Foles, and Andy Dalton. Foles was a former Super Bowl MVP and a good signing for a team with a young quarterback. The veteran player could help mentor Fields and mold him into a future star. Unfortunately, their relationship soured pretty quickly, according to Tyler Dunne.
“There were several arguments amongst the QBs,” Dunne wrote. “Once, per one source, Foles was trying to teach something to Fields in the QB room and—upon turning toward the rookie—Foles realized Fields wasn’t even paying attention. His head was down. At that point, Foles was done trying to play mentor. The two could not stand each other.”
Apparently, Justin Fields was not interested in being mentored. Once Nick Foles realized his attempts were falling on deaf ears, the relationship was unsalvagable. The report went on to talk about how Foles and Dalton hung out, but Fields was always the odd man out.
Classic Smear Campaign
This feels like a classic smear campaign to take the heat off of the Chicago Bears franchise. Last year at this time, the team was hyping Justin Fields up as a player ready to take a leap and become an elite quarterback. Now, they are detailing how Fields was a huge issue in the locker room and a poor quarterback. While some of this might be true, the timing is suspicious. It feels like the team is trying to convince the fans that it was his fault he didn’t pan out and not the coaching staff’s failures.
The Chicago Bears have no excuse now. Caleb Williams has been hailed as the next great quarterback. Analysts have been salivating over his game for the past two years. If the Bears mess this one up, there will be no amount of player behavior reports that will take the blame off of them.
