Chicago Bears’ Gigantic Opportunity In Week 5

chicago bears

The Chicago Bears have had it pretty good lately. They are 2-2 heading into week 5 and haven’t had any season-ending injuries to key players like many NFL teams have had to deal with. Most importantly, their state hasn’t been ravaged by Mother Nature. Conversely, the state of North Carolina has had it rough lately. Hurricane Helene left an impossibly tragic and difficult wrath behind that far surpasses the woes of their Charlotte-based NFL franchise.

Opportunity to Help Helene Victims

Sports don’t matter sometimes, and when natural disasters strike, the farthest thing from any football fan’s mind is what’s happening on the gridiron with their respective teams. Safety, sustenance, health care, rebuilding, grieving their losses, and simply finding and providing the necessities to sustain human and animal life take precedence over all else. The Chicago Bears, the NFL, and fans of any team have a chance to make a difference.

The Chicago Bears, their fans, and people everywhere can help the relief efforts in North Carolina and other states affected by Hurricane Helene by donating and/or volunteering with various local and national organizations. To donate a monetary contribution to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, visit the Feeding the Carolinas disaster relief fund. To contribute financially directly to the state of North Carolina’s general disaster relief fund, click here.

If you would like to volunteer your time and/or equipment, a great local organization to contact that can help put you to work as “boots on the ground” support is called Beloved Asheville. For national Hurricane Helene support, the Red Cross is accepting donations on its website. People can also donate blood with the Red Cross or volunteer at one of the several shelters they have set up. The Salvation Army is on the scene, providing food service and emotional and spiritual care. You can donate online by visiting its website.

Football Brings Relief

In times of high emotional and physical strife, sports can provide a welcome reprieve or temporary distraction from the carnage at hand for the ones who need it the most. The Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers week 5 matchup at Soldier Field will provide just that. The Chicago Bears better be ready for a hungry Panthers team looking to supply a much-needed victory for their weary fanbase back home.

Ever since the Panthers benched their first overall pick from 2023’s NFL Draft, Bryce Young, for journeyman veteran Andy Dalton, their tides on offense have turned for the better. Both of these QBs have ties to the Chicago Bears. Andy Dalton used to play for the Bears back in 2021 when he started six games, going 3-3 in those starts. Bryce Young is connected to the Bears via former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith.

When Lovie was coaching for the Houston Texans in 2022, he learned he would be fired following the last game of the season. Losing that game would have secured the 1st overall pick in the draft for Houston. Winning that game would give the number one overall pick in the 2023 draft to, you guessed it, the Carolina Panthers. Lovie’s team played hard and went for a 2-point conversion at the end of the game to win it instead of kicking the PAT to force overtime. The rest is history.

Conclusion

If even one person reads this article and does something to help with Hurricane Helene relief, that would be amazing. If two people did something to help someone recovering from a natural disaster, that might even get the writer misty-eyed. Asheville, NC, is a special place, and those folks need our help. There were many more special places adversely impacted by Helene, and we all have a chance to help, no matter how large or small the contribution is. Chicago Bears fans, please join me in doing what you can to help the Carolina Panthers’ home state.
