Chicago Bears Caleb Williams Named To Preseason Rookie Team

Chicago Bears Caleb Williams

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is receiving a lot of hype entering the 2024 NFL season. He was the number one overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft of USC. Some people think that Williams is the best quarterback talent coming out of college since Patrick Mahomes. Caleb Williams is aiming to win as many Super Bowl titles as possible. The Bears fanbase has hope and optimism for the future because they feel like they finally have a franchise quarterback.

The Chicago Bears traded quarterback Justin Fields in the offseason to the Pittsburgh Steelers. There was a massive debate in the Bears front office in whether they should keep Fields or trade him this offseason. Well, they went that route and hopefully, it pays off in the long term. Fields is not projected to be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season. Russell Wilson is projected to be the starting quarterback for the Steelers.

The Bears will start training camp this week. A lot of the fanbase is excited to see him play. It will be interesting to see how Williams does against NFL defenses compared to college defenses. There will be a lot of people on Twitter who can not wait to see his highlight reels during training camp practice. With the addition of Williams on the roster, some think that the Bears could make it to the playoffs this season. Chicago fans think they can finally beat the Green Bay Packers or the Detroit Lions in the NFC North. The last time the Bears won the division was in 2018.

He Was Named To Preseason First-Team By CBS Sports

Chicago Bears Caleb Williams

CBS Sports writer Chris Trapasso named Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams to the all-first-team rookie for the quarterback position. This does not come as a surprise by any means. Everyone thinks that Williams is the best quarterback in this year’s draft class. Trapasso said about Williams being on the first team:

We begin with … chalk. This doesn’t happen often, but I liked all three of the top quarterbacks selected in the 2024 draft — big arms, dynamic playmaking ability, and the time-tested pocket-passing talent needed as a basis for success in the NFL.

I’m going with Williams at No. 1 because of his well-documented situation in Chicago — maybe the best we’ve ever seen for a rookie first overall pick. I love the diversity in the receiver room with D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze each possessing their own speciality, and don’t sleep on speedster Tyler Scott, a 2023 mid-round selection who can expand defenses vertically with ease.

Chicago upgraded the wide receiver room in the offseason. The Bears acquired wide receiver Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers and they also drafted Rome Odunze with the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Washington. Odunze was selected after Marvin Harrison Jr. and Malik Nabers. Odunze last season with the Huskies in college football caught 92 passes for 1,640 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns, along with averaging 17.8 yards per catch. He played in 15 games.

As for Caleb Williams with the USC Trojans, he completed 68.6% of his passes for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also rushed 142 yards on 97 carries and 11 touchdowns, along with averaging 1.5 yards per carry. We will see if he can repeat that production during his rookie season. A lot of defenses will realize his special talent right away. It is not going to be a surprise when the Chicago Bears quarterback will be on the first-team all-rookie this NFL season. It would be a surprise if he did not make it and that would be because of injury and not performance during his rookie season.
