Jadon Sancho’s stint at Manchester United appears to be coming to an end with a deadline-day transfer to Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge. The Athletic reports that the two Premier League giants have reached an agreement, with Chelsea set to secure the 24-year-old from Erik ten Hag’s squad on Friday.
After impressing in the Bundesliga with Dortmund and reconciling with Ten Hag, Sancho seemed to be back on track. He even participated in pre-season and was included in the Community Shield squad. This summer Sancho has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, and Juventus.
Juventus had discussions with Manchester United about a possible deal, but they have now withdrawn from the race. Instead, it looks likely that Sancho will remain in the Premier League, with Chelsea emerging as the leading contender to sign him. Chelsea have confirmed the acquisition of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United on a season-long loan, with a mandatory option to make the transfer permanent next summer. The 24-year-old winger, set to wear the No. 19 jersey, becomes Chelsea’s 11th signing of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea have secured a loan deal for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho until the end of the season. The agreement includes a clause requiring Chelsea to purchase the 24-year-old England international for a fee between £20-25 million next summer.
Sancho, who originally joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million in July 2021, has struggled during his time at Old Trafford. He made 83 appearances over three seasons but had a well-publicized dispute with manager Erik ten Hag, which led to him training separately from the first team. After returning to Borussia Dortmund on loan in January, Jadon Sancho came back to United in the summer but has not been included in the squad for either of their Premier League matches this season. His last appearance for England was in 2021, having been left out of the squads for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and Euro 2024.
Despite Chelsea’s wealth of attacking options, including Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Pedro Neto, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, Joao Felix, and Marc Guiu, they believe Sancho represents good value. They hope he can rediscover his form, potentially following a similar path to Cole Palmer.

When moving forward, he employs simple yet effective shoulder feints to throw defenders off balance, using his excellent close control and balance to capitalize on these situations. He’s particularly effective in one-on-one scenarios.
However, his tendency to take multiple touches can sometimes hinder his progress. If a defender can match his pace over short distances, the extra touches can slow him down and reduce his chances of getting past them. While few opponents can keep up with him over longer distances, when Jadon Sancho dribbles inward, these touches not only allow defenders to stay with him but also give them opportunities to attempt a tackle.
