Chelsea is set to venture into the new season with many changes. The first change started with Mauricio Pochettino leaving the club under mutual agreement with the management. The Argentine was replaced by Leicester City’s former head coach Enzo Maresca. The Italian started business straight away, with different players added to the team. Chelsea brought in a Barcelona youngster named Marc Guiu.
The forward was also signed alongside Leicester City’s midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury Hall. Before those two’s signing, Chelsea had secured the signature of Fulham center-back, Tosin Adarabioyo. So far the Blues have added a lot to their team. Yet it seems they are not ready to stop adding. They look to add more depth to their goalkeeping department. Already they’re about to finalize the signing of Villarreal goal goalkeeper.

The Blues are nearer to securing Villarreal Goal Keeper Filip Jorgensen for a fee of £20.7 million. The 22-year-old is set to run his medical tests this week and is expected to agree to a seven-year deal. It was reported by Mail Sport, that Chelsea had initially offered £17m for Villarreal. However, the negotiations finalized on £21m. Filip Jorgensen has been said to be enthusiastic about becoming a Blues goalkeeper. This is despite the presence of their No. 1 Robert Sanchez, who has many years remaining on his contract.
As it stands he is set to fly to the United States to run his Medical. Jorgensen was Villarreal’s no 1 goalie last season. He had 37 appearances in all tournaments. Although at end Villarreal narrowly missed out on the European footballer. When the Blues needed depth at the keeping position, coach Enzo Maresca had in mind his former goalkeeper at Leicester. Mads Hermansen was his interest, however, their interests switched to the intriguing Swedish Keeper.
The depth is necessary for the Blues, as Sanchez who arrived last season struggled with an injury. The Spaniard was unable to continue most of the season after his knee injury in December.
Reports on the Deal being Close
Matteo Moretto who reports for the Italian Insider said today that both parties “have already exchanged documents”. This indicates that the bid has been accepted and terms have been agreed on. He wrapped up that it’s only basic formalities that remain. For Chelsea, it seems to be an interesting move as there has been a desire by the fans for the Blues to sign a world-class goalkeeper.
They’ve been struggling with a consistent goalkeeper over the past years. Different keepers have arrived and been changed by the club on almost an annual basis. In the next few days, the deal is likely to be done. There has been a sign of urgency in the signing of Jorgensen. The club likely wants to assess all pick-out crucial players in the team. This is expected to be examined throughout the preseason when they already have two games played.
Player Profile
Jorgensen is seen as a keeper who can play with his feet, and based on assessment he seems to be more comfortable than the likes of Robert Sanchez and Petrovic. For this reason, son the Danish man is being pursued. Chelsea will be hoping that his introduction into the team will enhance the team’s new style of play. The Blues’ first two preseason games have been unimpressive, Drawing to 2-2 against Wrexham and losing horribly to Celtic 4-1. It seems Maresca is trying to introduce a new style of play into the team: a play out from the back. However, the team looks to be struggling to adapt. Chelsea will hope Jorgensen can positively influence it.
