Casey Mittelstadt signed a three-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche in June. The Avalanche have vastly improved their lines over the years but have continued to whiplash fans with their seemingly polar opposite gameplay, and reputation. After being knocked out in the first round of the playoffs last season, is this the change they need to bring their game back to their 2022 reverence?
Casey Mittelstadt and His Ability to Shine
Casey Mittelstadt, born in Eden Prairie, Minnesota in the year 1998, made his presence known after being the eighth overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. During the infancy of his career with the NHL, Casey Mittelstadt signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Sabres as a forward. Mittelstadt proved he was a constant goal scorer for the club and a serious presence on the ice. The forward, now center, spent roughly a seven-year tenure with Buffalo until the Colorado Avalanche picked him up at the trade deadline during the 2023-2024 season.
Proving his worth, Mitterlstadt can now expect to wear the #37 jersey with the Avalanche for three years. Some may call hockey unpredictable, but Casey Mittelstadt’s signing with the Avalanche is a promising move.
The Whiplash Of The Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche (AVS) has had a concerning past to state the obvious. After their move to Denver, Colorado in 1995, the team’s stability seemed to waver for multiple seasons. They can place first in the division one season, and last the next. Placing last with 16 W in the 2012-2013 season, to 52 W, finishing first in the division the following season (2013-2014), stability is not a word many associate with the Colorado Avalanche.
On the latter, the Avalanche surprised fans with their 2021-2022 season, concluding in them winning the Stanley Cup. In the last few years, the Avalanche has been able to make playoff appearances, but can they continue to deliver? With the uncertainty of the upcoming 2024-2025 season shrouding the NHL and the impressive Casey Mittelstadt making his home for the next three years in Denver, the team needs to break away from its reputation.
Mittelstadt and Avalanche: The New Power Couple
The Minnesota hockey player and the team may be a match made in heaven. During his few games with Colorado in the 2023-2024 season, he certainly impressed despite the adjustment. After the initial accustoming, Mittelstadt became a solid part of the line with the Avalanche last season. With three years locked in, we can hope to see the club and players compliment, build, and emphasize each other, making the AVS and Casey Mittelstadt the talk of the season.
