Carla Esparza is an incredible fighter with a total of 27 fights, in which she dominated 20 fights and lost 7 of them. She won 4 of the fights with a knockout and 4 with submission, while the rest were decision wins. Her upcoming rival is going to be Pennington, who has also lost 7 fights but has only won 13. This makes Esparza already dominant because of her experience. Other than that, the fight will purely depend on the training done by each fighter before the event. However, the famous Esparza will have something shocking prepared for this battle.
Retirement of Carla Esparza
Carla Esparza is looking forward to retiring after the fight against Pennington. But this is not the first time she thought about it. In reality, she planned to retire 2 years ago when she got married to her husband. The reason for her retirement is obvious. She wants to give proper time to her kids and husband. She wants to take care of and educate her kids well so they can have a brighter future. Esparza also has a wrestling career from which she will be retiring to open a new chapter of her life.
She explained the change in her priorities in these words: “I’ll be turning 37 the week after the fight, so it’s definitely put a lot of years on this car, and the attention it takes to be a parent for me — and everyone does it differently but I feel that being a parent is the most selfless thing I’ve ever done, and being a fighter is the most selfish thing I’ve done.”
Carla Esparza: Most people think that Ezparza is retiring because she has lost interest in the sports and she doesn’t want to continue anymore. She clarified this mystery and said that she still wants to grow, discover, and achieve more in sports but there are things more important than that. She stated, “I always said that when this sport stopped being fun for me and I lost my passion, that would be the time to hang it up. But that hasn’t happened. I still go to training like hungry to learn. I’m still so passionate about learning and growing in this sport and evolving. It wasn’t that for me. It’s so many things.”
Official Retirement from UFC
Esparza wanted to have one last fight before she retired and she contacted the UFC to arrange an event for her. And she received the good news from UFC that very soon, she would be fighting against Pennington. Esparza is happy that she is not leaving UFC as an injured fighter or because of old age, but as one of the great fighters of the UFC women’s division. “This is a natural progression. Nobody can stay on top forever, but it is nice to go out on my terms and not be forced out by injury after injury or just a bad performance”, she said.
Final Thoughts
Carla Esparza will be remembered as one of the great fighters of UFC for a long time. Every fighter at some stage has to go through this hard time and leave the Octagon where they played for years. She could’ve continued for a little longer but she has an honorable reason to leave. What are your thoughts about the retirement of Carla Esparza? Let us know in the comment section.
