The former second-round pick from 2008 Calais Campbell returns to Miami, Florida as he agrees to terms with a new team, the Miami Dolphins.
It was first reported Thursday Night, June 13th by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, with contract details not out yet. He is entering his 17th NFL season at the ripe age of 37, so this will likely be the last stop for the veteran interior defensive lineman.
The All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler has been on multiple teams ever since he was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, where he was an integral part of the team for nine years. In 2017, Campbell signed with the Jaguars and in 2020, was traded to the Ravens after three seasons in Jacksonville.
In Baltimore, he also spent three seasons before signing with the Atlanta Falcons for a year in 2023.
Now, Calais Campbell inks a new deal with the Miami Dolphins.
Calais Campbell Reunites with Dolphins Defensive Coordinator
Calais Campbell signs with a new team and links back up with Anthony Weaver, according to NFL Media’s Pelissero and Rapoport. Weaver became the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins this offseason and was with the Ravens for two years when Campbell was in Baltimore. With the Ravens, he was impactful as a 3-4 defensive end in their scheme from 2020 to 2022.
In 2023, Campbell was released as a cap casualty and signed a one-year, $7 million contract with Atlanta, according to Spotrac. In his brief stint with the Falcons and despite being one of the oldest players in the league, he recorded 6.5 sacks, including his 100th career sack last year. Calais Campbell can be an impactful starter with what he’s got left in the tank for 2024.
Calais Campbell Makes a Return to Florida for 17th NFL Season in Miami
Calais Campbell is infamous for his long reach with his massive frame and his strong base as a stout run defender while being able to rush the passer. His career seasons sack-wise were in 2017 (14.5) and 2018 (10.5) in Jacksonville with double-digit sacks in back-to-back years. The former Miami Hurricane also had 11 seasons with double-digit tackles for loss and 105.5 career sacks.
Campbell has done great things for the community, achieving the Bart Starr Award in 2019, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2019, the Art Rooney Award in 2022, and more recently, the NFLPA Alan Page Community Award in 2022. Calais Campbell is a player who at least can replace Christian Wilkins (who signed with the Las Vegas Raiders) against the run.
