Most of the world has heard of Caitlin Clark. On the last day of January, she changed the world when she scored 35 points for Iowa, breaking the Big Ten all-time scoring record that Kelsey Mitchell of Ohio State held. Her timing seemed perfect for striking fear in the world with her playing for Team USA in the Paris Olympics. However, no word has yet been on whether she will go for the Gold for USA.
Could Caitlin Clark be heading to Paris for Team USA?
Caitlin was born in late January 2002 in Des Moines, Iowa, and grew up in West Des Moines, where she played for Dowling Catholic High School. She was awarded a McDonald’s All-American and the fourth-best player in her class by ESPN. Moving on to Iowa for college in her freshman year, she led the NCAA Division in scoring, winning her an All-American title.
Caitlin Clark Blazes the Trail in Records all Her Life
Caitlin’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. In her sophomore year, she was unanimously voted as a first-team All-American, dominating her division in both points and assists. Her junior year marked a significant milestone as she led Iowa to its first national championship, earning her the national player of the year title. She repeated this feat in her senior year, returning to the national title game. Her consistent performance and undeniable talent make her a strong contender for the Olympic team.
She also played at the youth international level for the United States, where she won three gold medals and two FIBA Under-19 NCAA Division titles, including the Most Valuable Player award in 2021.
In NCAA Division I college, Caitlin holds the record for surpassing 3,000 points, 900 assists, and 800 rebounds, a record that no other player, men or women, has matched.
With every accomplishment she has won, there is no wonder all the questions Americans are wanting her to play in Paris for Team USA. The roster will be announced on June 1st, but there has been no word of whether she has elected to play yet. She was invited to train with the USA training camp a few weeks ago, but Caitlin could not take part due to a previous commitment to the NCAA Tournament in the Final Four. Her attendance in the training camp isn’t mandatory for playing in the Olympics. She can start in the WNBA, qualifying her for an Olympic tryout.
Basketball has been in the Olympics since 1936 and drawn some of the world’s best athletes to compete one against another. In 1976 women came together to show their skills changing the world. Since that time the United States has only lost the Gold to the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia and Argentina.
Team USA women’s Basketball has the reputation of domination with a history of 70-3 record in Olympic play. Their reputation is well earned to be unbeatable with seven consecutive titles to defend. Caitlin has been pushing the envelope in her sport all her life. Could the Olympics be the next stage where she makes a place for her name in the record books?
