Today, the Indiana Fever went head to head with the New York Liberty in what ended up being an intense one. Not only did the Fever have an electric rally, but Caitlin Clark also made WNBA History. She had one amazing game today and played a vital role in this one. She’s proving to be one of the best rookies ever drafted in this league and has continued to improve the Indiana Fever every single game. It will be very fun to watch her blaze a path to greatness.
WNBA History is Officially Made
Everyone knew that Clark was going to make a difference in the WNBA. She has had some slow games where she’s struggled to get started, but after some time, the fire returned under her feet. Clark managed to have a historic game against the New York Liberty.
With the triple-double she had in today’s game, she has become the first WNBA rookie ever to get a triple-double. So, not only did she make history, but she is the only one on this amazing list. Clark got her triple-double with 12 rebounds, 13 assists, and 19 points. These are some decent stats coming from the rookie. However, she’s already had a 30-point game in her short career. Once she becomes more consistent in the league, 30 will be a very easy number for her to grab.
If you know Caitlin Clark, you know this will most likely not be her last triple-double of the season.
Indiana Fever Improving With Clark’s Play
This Fever team has struggled heavily through the season. However, today would be the first time beating the New York Liberty all season. Also, just looking at Clark’s assist stats, you can see how her teammates are starting to improve and adjust around her. In the beginning, Clark’s difficult passes were consistently dropped. Today, they were caught and translated into points.
If Indiana can continue to improve, expect Clark to make more history. She has been on the cusp of a triple-double a few times this season but didn’t have the assists or rebounds to get over the hump. If she can get her fellow Fever players locked in and playing near her level, a triple-double will be a feat she reaches more often.
Also, Clark’s rising assists per game should be exciting to see for Fever fans and players. Having a star who can score and get others a basket the next trip down is big. Team basketball is something that wins championships, as proven by the Las Vegas Aces. If Clark can right this ship, Indiana could actually be a dangerous team.
Rookie of The Year Candidate
As her numbers rise, so do her chances of becoming the Rookie of the Year. Clark is currently in a race with Angel Reese for this honor. Both women have made WNBA history, putting them on a pretty equal playing field. The media is definitely favoring Clark as her college hype continues to follow her.
Clark is not new to making history, as she was the first player in Division I history to notch 1,000+ points in consecutive seasons. As her legacy continues to grow in the pro league, more history should be expected. Her points per game aren’t exponentially high, but it grows with every game. Her current stats are 16.0 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game, and 7.1 assists per game. One should expect that the points per game will be going up by next week as Clark strives to be the greatest WNBA rookie of all time.
