Caio Borralho recently dominated his opponent, Jared Cannonier, at UFC Vegas 96, and now he is looking forward to having a title shot at the middleweight championship. But before that, there is going to be a really interesting fight between Dricus du Plessis and Sean Strickland. Strickland was the title holder, but he lost it to du Plessis. Sean and his coach did not accept that and want a rematch against Plessis. UFC is also looking forward to having a rematch between them. The winner between the two great fighters will have to defend their title against Borralho, who is the rising threat to both Dricus and Strickland.
Prediction of Caio Borralho
Borralho has called du Plessis out for a fight after his victory at UFC Vegas 96, but he believes the UFC middleweight champion will change before he gets a title shot. In UFC Vegas 96, Borralho secured his stunning 7-0 record in the UFC, accounting for the best performance of his career, in his first main event.
While the majority of his wins have come on the ground, Borralho outboxed Cannonier in a kickboxing match and came close to finishing him off with a combination of punches in the fifth round. Two of the judges had it 49-45 while the third had it 48-46 in favor of Borralho.
Performance in UFC Vegas 96
The 35-year-old Borralho, a member of the successful light heavyweight team Fighting Nerds from Brazil, had some rough moments in his fight against Cannonier including a painful cut below his right eye. But was able to hold on and get the victory in the later rounds of the match. In the interview before the fight, he clarified some of his goals.
One of his goals is to be in the category of great fighters like GSP and Joe Jones. The fighting Nerd has been competing in the UFC since 2021 and has had two appearances in the Contender Series. He has the feeling that he and his team are now ready to compete with the best in MMA.
Borralho went on to state that he is not ready to take his foot off the pedal. After gaining seven victories in only 28 months in the UFC, he is still looking forward to adding more victories to his record as du Plessis and Strickland also prepare for their match.
Final Thoughts
The fighting nerd seems to be a perfect match for du Plessis but the fighting business is different from what people expect. UFC might give Borralho other fights rather than the title shot, so it would make him the best challenger for the title shot.
