Buffalo Bills Continue Playoff Struggles

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills came up short once again in the NFL Playoffs on Sunday evening. Kansas City is headed to its third straight Super Bowl while Buffalo made the wrong type of history. The Buffalo Bills are the first team in NFL history to win a playoff game in five consecutive seasons and fail to reach the Super Bowl in any of them. Over those five seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs have ended the Buffalo Bills season four times. The Cincinnati Bengals defeated them in the other year.

Bills Quarterback Josh Allen continued to come up short against Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Allen is the first quarterback in league history to lose four playoff starts to another quarterback. The two quarterbacks played each other to a near draw in the AFC Championship Game, but Mahomes and the Chiefs made the clutch plays that led to them being able to chase history. When will the Buffalo Bills breakthrough in the AFC?

Buffalo Bills Face a Familiar Fate

Josh Allen and the Bills have been one of the league’s most consistent teams over the last half-decade, but have been unable to experience playoff success. Unfortunately for Buffalo, Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are on the best run in league history. Buffalo fell behind 21-10 early, but fought back. As is seemingly always the case when these teams play, it came down to the final few drives.

With the game tied at 32 with 6:00 left, Mahomes drove Kansas City down the field to kick a field goal. KC’s defense, which has been the team’s strength over the past few years, forced the Buffalo Bills to turn the ball over on downs. It was then incumbent upon the Chiefs offense to pick up a few first downs to ice the game. They did just that. The end-of-game execution distilled the differences between the Buffalo Bills and Kanas City Chiefs in the NFL Playoffs.

Final Thoughts

It was another disappointing playoff result for the Buffalo Bills. They had the two-time defending champions on the ropes multiple times but were unable to land the knockout punch. With another playoff loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, Bills fans will be left wondering for another offseason when they beat the Chiefs and advance to the Super Bowl. Serious change may be on the horizon in Buffalo as these consistent playoff shortcomings will not be tolerated much longer.
