Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen Should Be Named NFL MVP For 1 Simple Reason

Josh Allen

Even though it should be a close vote, Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen is the clear choice to be named the 2024 NFL MVP. Baltimore Ravens Quarterback Lamar Jackson, following a great year of his own, could also win his second consecutive MVP next month. These quarterbacks will have the chance to go head-to-head on Sunday night with a spot in the AFC Championship Game up for grabs.

Allen should be named the NFL MVP because he has done more with an inferior roster. The All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections reinforce that point. Baltimore had six All-Pro selections while Allen is Buffalo’s only representative. The Baltimore Ravens also had a league-leading nine Pro Bowlers. The Buffalo Bills had two. Allen and Offensive Tackle Dion Dawkins were Buffalo’s only representatives. Will Buffalo’s star player win his first career MVP?

Allen Is More Important To His Team

The Buffalo Bills demand more from their star quarterback than the Ravens demand from Jackson. While Jackson had a better statistical season than Allen, that should not be the determining factor in the NFL MVP. Even with Jackson having a far better roster, Buffalo still ended up with a better record in the regular season. That is why the Baltimore Ravens are visiting the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, not the other way around.

Baltimore and Buffalo’s offenses are also mirror images of one another. Baltimore is led by the rushing tandem of Jackson and Running Back Derrick Henry. The Ravens had the best ground game during the regular season and rushed for a whopping 299 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card Round. Buffalo was led by their passing, and Allen’s performance, to put together such a strong regular season. Allen accounted for 40 offensive touchdowns. He had as many rushing touchdowns as the rest of the roster with 16 apiece.

Final Thoughts

While I would not be up in arms if Jackson is named NFL MVP, it would be the incorrect decision. The term valuable must come into play regarding how this year’s voting should unfold. The numbers bore out that Allen did more with less than Jackson did with one of the league’s best rosters.

If Jackson were to be removed from the Baltimore Ravens, the team’s performance would not suffer that much because the roster is chalked full of Pro Bowlers/All-Pro’s. Jackson played 12 games in 2022 and the Ravens qualified for the NFL Playoffs. On the contrary, the Bills rested Allen and many of its key players in Week 18, and they lost to a New England Patriots team that was trying to lose. The depth between these two rosters is not comparable, but the Buffalo Bills had a better record during the regular season.
