Buffalo Bills Hosts 2 Veteran Kickers As Patience For Tyler Bass Thinning

Buffalo Bills sign critical member of secondary on eve of NFL season.

The Buffalo Bills patience with kicker Tyler Bass may be wearing out as the franchise is hosting two veteran kickers today, according to multiple reports. Could this be the end of the line for the Buffalo Bills and Tyler Bass? A team can only take so much, and the kicker can create game-altering impacts each and every week.

The Buffalo Bills are working out kickers Cade York and Anders Carlson today. The news comes after kicker Tyler Bass missed his first kick of the season in a 31-10 win over the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Sean McDermott has already put Bass on notice just three weeks ago, stating, “That is a kick he has to make.” The team signed Bass to a four-year contract extension that runs through the 2027 season. Could this season be the last season of Bass in Buffalo?

In 2023, Tyler boasted an 82.8% field goal percentage on kicks. In the playoffs, he made an abysmal forty percent of his kicks, including missing an awful 27-yard kick badly. This season, Bass has made three out of four of his field goals, along with all eight of his points after attempts. In his young four-year NFL career, Bass has made eighty-four point six percent of his kicks. The Buffalo Bills season ended last season after a missed field goal attempt in their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional round. After a promising start to his NFL career, it seems that the former Georgia Southern alum has the yips.

Final thoughts

Speculation is circulating in Buffalo about what the team could be doing with their kicker situation. It seems like they are doing their research by hosting the two available kickers in case Tyler Bass’ accuracy does not warrant him his job. While it is a major surprise for the Bills to play host to York and Carlson, the Bills placekicker has been put on notice that his job is on the line. As much as many in the Bills Mafia want a change at the kicker position, it is too early to panic on Tyler Bass.

After the end of the AFC Divisional Round game, some of the Bills Mafia sent threatening messages to Tyler Bass on his social media accounts. The results of their actions led to him deleting all of his social media accounts. Experts are starting to wonder if the pressure of being a kicker for the Buffalo Bills may be too much for the young kicker.

The team could use one of their practice squad spaces on a veteran kicker as insurance if Bass continues to struggle. Could the reason for the Buffalo Bills hosting two veteran kickers be due to mental issues by Tyler Bass? Only time will tell if and when Bass’ time in Buffalo could be up.
