Bronny James Makes Huge Decision to Forgo College Eligibility and Remains in 2024 Draft

Bronny James Los Angeles Lakers Summer League

It was shocking when Bronny James decided to enter his name into the 2024 NBA draft. Some people believe that the only reason Bronny is going to get drafted is due to his father being LeBron James. However, there has been a recent buzz on Twitter about people stating that James Jr. could actually be a high pick in the first round and that he showed out in the combine.

With the 10 day combine rule set, Bronny James has officially missed the NCAA withdrawal date and is now locked in. This means that he has taken away his college eligibility and must now go full send into the NBA draft.

Is Bronny James the Worst Case of NBA Nepotism?

There is no question that nepotism runs rampant through the NBA. One example would have to be Keljin Blevins, cousin of Damian Lillard. He found his way onto the Portland Trail Blazers after a less-than-stellar college career and managed to only average 2.2 points per game in his two seasons on the team. Another prime example is Chris Smith, the brother of J.R. Smith, who played exactly one minute for the New York Knicks in the 2013-14 season. This was later investigated as it seemed he was only signed so the Knicks could get J.R. Smith to sign with them again.

If you dig deep into the world of nepotism in the league, it is clear that Bronny James wouldn’t be the worst of the worst. The kid has skill and could probably grow into a solid role player. He shouldn’t be a high first round draft pick, but with the poor quality of this draft class, anyone can see that he could be a round two pick. Yes, his father will be a part of why he gets drafted, but I don’t believe it’s the worst nepotism case to ever happen.

The Dismissing of Team Workouts

https://gty.im/2086556733

Recently, it was reported that Bronny James has declined to workout with a decent number of teams. He is only looking to show off his skills for the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns. Seemingly, this has put a bad taste in some people’s mouths as it makes Bronny seem a bit conceded.

The narrative being told online is that James Jr. knows he is going to get drafted and that, with his father’s influence, he could get to choose where he wants to go. There is a possibility that LeBron wants to either stay with LA or move on to try and get a chip with the Sun’s struggling super team. He could be influencing Bronny to decline other teams and only focus on the two that he wants to go to. However, LeBron James has said multiple times that he does not want to have this sort of influence on his son and wishes for Bronny to make his own decision.

Best Case Scenario for Bronny James

https://gty.im/2003912737

Everyone knows that Lebron James wants to play with his son. However, this might lead to disaster for James Jr. He needs to be on a team that will focus on his development and push him to be better. Being thrown onto a struggling Los Angeles Lakers and flopping Phoenix Suns could be disastrous.

A team that actually needs Bronny James would be a better option for him. Bronny James won’t be able to contribute to these teams. He’ll most likely be riding the bench for a decent amount of time unless he has a miraculous breakout season. He needs to be on a team that isn’t contending for a title. Since he isn’t taking an option to sign with a G-League team, it’s imperative that he sees some action on the court to grow and learn.
