Brian Lara Picks The Greatest Player Of All Time

Brian Lara is widely considered one of the greatest cricketers of all time. He leaves an indelible impact on the game with his extraordinary batting abilities and unrivaled grace. Lara’s effect on cricket is legendary, thanks to his flawless technique.

He can hit big runs. He has the record for the greatest individual score in first-class cricket. Lara is an undefeated 501*, and the highest score in Test cricket, 400*. His ability to perform regularly against the world’s finest bowlers cemented his place in cricket history. Brian served as an inspiration to many aspiring players.

Brian Lara Names The Talented Players

In a stunning disclosure, Lara praised his old colleague Carl Hooper‘s extraordinary talent. He put him higher than even cricket luminaries like Tendulkar and himself.  Meanwhile, Lara emphasized the difference in Hooper’s performance when playing versus captaining. He also shared important details about the chemistry of the West Indies cricket squad.

He stated that Hooper’s batting average increased dramatically to nearly 50. It happened when he took on the leadership, demonstrating that he flourished with the extra responsibility. Lara considered it sad that Hooper only attained his greatest potential as a player while simultaneously serving as team captain. He implied that his enormous skill was not completely exploited during his career. Lara stated:

Carl was one of the finest players I’ve ever seen. I believe that neither Tendulkar nor I could match that skill. Carl’s stats vary greatly depending on whether he is playing or captaining.  As a captain, he averaged close to 50, thus he relished the responsibility. It’s unfortunate that only as captain did he reach his full potential.

An Overview of the Caribbean Team

Brian also provided intriguing insights into the dynamics of the West Indies cricket squad, notably Carl Hooper’s connection with the famous Vivian Richards. According to Lara, Richards adored Hooper more than Lara himself.

“Now, it should be remembered that Richards never criticized anyone because he wanted nobody to be as successful as he was. He was harsh by nature. Yet he never wanted you to fail. It was just who he was. And see, Viv adored Carl. That’s a lot more than he loved me. But the way Viv expresses love fails to connect with Carl,” Brian Lara remarked.
