University of Connecticut Men’s basketball coach, Dan Hurley, is staying in school. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the back-to-back NCAA National Championship winning coach turned down the historic Los Angeles Lakers franchise by returning to UCONN this afternoon. Woj reported the LA Lakers offered a six-year, $70 million contract to the elite bench boss which would’ve easily landed him in the top 10 for coach salary in the National Basketball Association next season.

After winning the NCAA Championship in 2023 and 2024 with the University of Connecticut Huskies Men’s Basketball team, Dan Hurley will stay in the Northeast in 2024-25. He will have the opportunity to become the first men’s basketball coach to win three straight National Titles.
With several starters expected to join the NBA, Hurley will have the chance to mold the Huskies into another Title contender.
Over the last two seasons, the UCONN Men’s basketball team has been the “FINAL BOSS” that would make Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson smirk that legendary smile from ear to ear. The University of Connecticut finished 2022-23 with a 31-8 record while improving to 37-3 in last season. UCONN enjoyed the party the comes along with cutting down the nylon nets in March both years.

Despite a “compelling vision” presented to the 51-year-old UCONN head coach, GM Rob Pelinka and owner Jeannie Buss were not able to sway the UCONN boss to depart for the NBA after last week’s meeting. With the decision, Hurley passes up the opportunity to coach one of the best players in the basketball world, Lebron James, and maybe even his son, Bronny James.
Outside of an NBA Championship in 2019-20, it has been a tough stretch for the Los Angeles Lakers since back-to-back titles in 2008-09 and 2009-10. Since the start of 2011, the Lakers made the Conference Finals only one other time in 2022-23 resulting in a 4-1 series loss to the eventual 2023 NBA Champion, Denver Nuggets. Otherwise, Los Angeles has not enjoyed the success typically seen throughout their illustrious history.
