After moving from Austria to the Bundesliga, Sesko didn’t take much time to adjust to his new surroundings. The 21-year-old forward netted an impressive 18 goals in all competition for Leipzig in the just-concluded season. Sesko hit top form at the tail-end of the season, scoring in each of the last seven league games of the campaign.

The Slovenia forward has proved that he can become an elite striker in the coming years despite being just 21. And this has undoubtedly attracted top European clubs who are in the transfer market for a new striker. However, with the list of top strikers very slim in the current transfer window, it will come as a major blow to the interested clubs with his decision to stay.

Sesko’s New Deal Implications & Future

The major news emerging out of Germany today is about him nailed on to sign a new contract at RB Leipzig. In addition, the new long-term contract will exclude the release clause that was inserted in his current contract. This will undoubtedly confirm his stay with the German side for at least another year.

It is no secret that Benjamin Sesko has been reportedly linked to a host of Premier League clubs for a couple of years now. There was a report of a potential transfer from RB Salzburg to Manchester United, he however moved to RB Leipzig. During that period till date, Sesko has gone on to score lots of goals, which has led to increased speculations. With Arsenal Chelsea and even Tottenham among the frontrunners for his signature.

Sesko’s new deal means he will be staying with his current side for another season at the most. However, if going by previous transfer sagas, one can tell that just because a new long-term contract is signed by a player, it does not guarantee their stay for the complete duration of such a contract. Usually, when deals of this nature are struck, a gentleman’s agreement isn’t far off. This will allow the player to leave if another club comes knocking.

Conclusion

Benjamin Sesko was at the top of the transfer list of major European clubs this season. However, they now have to look elsewhere after being dealt a major blow with this new contract development.
The Slovenia forward chose to stay back and develop more into a better version of himself, while resisting the temptations to play in the Premier League. Most players would jump on such opportunities and take on the added pressure that comes with it. However, Sesko has chosen to bind his time and grow in a more settled environment before making the big step up.
