The Tennessee Titans are signing WR Calvin Ridley to a 4-year, $92M deal with $50M fully guaranteed. The 29-year-old attended the University of Alabama from 2015 to 2017 before declaring for the 2018 NFL Draft, where he was selected 26th overall by the Atlanta Falcons. Ridley played in a total of 66 career games in 5 seasons, (as he missed 29 straight games between 2021-2022 due to mental health issues and a season-long suspension). He recorded 324 receptions on 516 targets for 4,358 yards (13.5 Y/R, 66.0 Y/G) while also accumulating 36 touchdowns.
Calvin Ridley’s 2023 Production
Calvin Ridley played in all 17 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023. This was his first real season of football since 2020, and he picked up where he left off. The former Falcon recorded 76 catches on 136 targets for 1,016 yards (13.4 Y/R, 59.8 Y/G). Ridley also was responsible for 8 touchdowns and 49 first downs.
How Does This Move Impact Calvin Ridley?
After a strong start to his NFL career in Atlanta, the two following years were concerning for the talented wide receiver. Ridley fell off the grid before getting dealt to Jacksonville on November 1, 2022. He then made his comeback last season, where he resurrected his career and nearly helped Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars reach the playoffs for the second year in a row.
Ridley proved that he is still an elite wide receiver in this game, and now he will play alongside another young quarterback who has shown flashes of greatness. Tennessee struggled in the passing game last season, as they threw for 180.4 yards per game (4th worst in NFL). They also had a difficult time scoring the ball, as they averaged 17.9 points per game (6th worst in NFL). The 29-year-old WR will look to help address those offensive problems when he steps foot on the field.
Tennessee Titans 2024 Outlook
The Titans had a disappointing 2023 season as they lost the division with a record of 6-11. Despite losing Derrick Henry to the Baltimore Ravens in free agency, they acquired Tony Pollard as his replacement. Tennessee will now have a new-look offense with Will Levis running the show for a full season. He displayed his arm talent and with veteran pass-catchers to throw to (Calvin Ridley and DeAndre Hopkins), this offense won’t be as predictable and may be more explosive than people realize.
