AS Roma have parted ways with head coach Daniele De Rossi following a disappointing start to the season. The Serie A club announced the decision on Wednesday after the team failed to secure a victory in their opening four league matches. De Rossi, a legendary figure at Roma with nearly two decades of playing experience, stepped into the role of head coach in January following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho. In June, he agreed to a contract extension that extended till 2027.
Roma Sacks De Rossi After Eight Months In Charge
Just after four matches into the 2024-25 season, Roma has sacked head coach Daniele De Rossi. The club announced saying:
Daniele De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team. The club’s decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages. To Daniele, who will always be at home in the Giallorossi club, a heartfelt thanks for the work carried out in these months with passion and dedication.
De Rossi had an excellent start to his Roma career as a manager. He suffered only a single defeat in his opening 11 league games and gathered an impressive 26 points out of a possible 33. With that impressive run, Roma rose from ninth to fifth place in the Seria A standings. The team made a commendable run to the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they faced a tough challenge against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. After securing a sixth-place finish in the previous season, the team secured their spot in this season’s Europa League. Roma will be traveling to Tottenham on November 28th, and this is arguably their toughest European schedule in the group stage phase.
What Next For Roma
Roma suffered a frustrating setback over the weekend, allowing a late equalizer that resulted in a 1-1 draw against Genoa. This draw saw Roma with just three points after four matches in the season. This Sunday, Roma will take on Udinese at home. Fans will be hoping for a new manager to bounce luck as club legend De Rossi has already been sacked.
