The NHL and Amazon Prime Video announced a Fall 2024 docuseries highlighting some of the stars in the NHL on the ultimate hockey prize. In the fourth original hockey programming for Amazon, this series will provide unprecedented access to some of the league’s stars as they grind out the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs for a chance to lift Lord Stanley’s Cup in June.
Amazon announced crews will follow Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers and Matthew Tkachuk from the Florida Panthers to capture exclusive video during the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals.
Amazon’s Docuseries on the “Fastest Game on Earth”

One of the old taglines of the National Hockey League was “the fastest game on earth”. I don’t exactly remember when the NHL stopped using that – somewhere in the 2010s, maybe? Leave a comment if you remember.
According to the press release from the National Hockey League, Amazon is looking to bring that up-close speed and intensity into homes all over the globe this fall.
“This generation of NHL superstars are modern day gladiators unlike anything ever seen before, with big personalities and even bigger play makers, and we have the perfect partners to capture that energy for an unparalleled sports docuseries,” said Shaun Alperin, head of content, Prime Video, Canada. “Working with Box To Box Films and NHL Productions we cannot wait to bring to the screen the passion, the intensity, and the sheer excitement of the road to the Stanley Cup final, revealing what fans have only speculated goes on behind the scenes of the world’s fastest team sport.”

The 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Finals will begin this weekend with Game 1 between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers on Saturday evening at 8 pm EST. Florida holds home-ice advantage in the Finals, therefore, the first two games will take place in Sunrise, Florida before the series moves northwest to Edmonton.
The National Hockey League’s Chief Content Officer and Senior Executive Vice President Steve Mayer is hopeful the Amazon docuseries will provide a new insight into the sport.
“This is so meaningful for our league. Box To Box has revolutionized modern storytelling for Formula 1, golf and tennis,” said NHL Chief Content Officer & Senior Executive Vice President Steve Mayer. “With the full support of the League, players, coaches and owners, we welcome the opportunity to showcase our stars and the greatest season and postseason in sports – the Stanley Cup Playoffs – to a global audience.”
