Quarterback Kirk Cousins, who has experienced many ups and downs in his twelve-year NFL career, now has a new home. After spending the past six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Cousins has just agreed to a four-year, $180 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons. He gets $90 million over the first two years of the contract and $50 million to sign.
The deal cannot officially be consummated until the start of the new league year on Wednesday. But by all reports, Cousins and the Falcons were able to iron out the details on the first day of legal tampering.
Kirk Cousins is recovering from a season-ending Achilles injury that saw him miss the last nine games of the Vikings’ 2023 season. But he is a four-time Pro-Bowler, and he has thrown for over 23,000 yards in his six years with the Vikings.
Kirk Cousins: What this Means for the Vikings
The Vikings must now acquire a quarterback for the short to medium term as well as draft their quarterback of the future. If they had retained Kirk Cousins for an additional couple of years, it would have given their rookie quarterback time to mature and master the system. Now there may be pressure to play the rookie earlier if Cousin’s veteran replacement does not pan out.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank gets his experienced, veteran quarterback and, hopefully for him, a shot at a World Championship for Atlanta. The Falcons can pair him with their two burgeoning stars, Bijan Robinson and Drake London.
What This Means for Kirk Cousins
Kirk Cousins gets to start anew with a contending team that features several young stars. It is also significant to note that he inked a four-year deal with a chunk of money upfront. This provides ample security to a 36-year-old quarterback who is coming off a serious injury. As a side note, Cousins’ wife, Julie Hampton, is a native of Alpharetta Georgia. She also attended college at the University of Georgia.
Minnesota Vikings Say Goodbye to Kirk Cousins
Minnesota Vikings management and fans say thanks and goodbye to Kirk Cousins. Now they must turn their attention to their immediate and long-term needs at the quarterback position.
