In the aftermath of a disheartening one-point defeat versus the Kolkata Knight Riders at the illustrious Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s skipper, Faf du Plessis, faced another setback on Sunday post-match. He incurred a fine of Rs. 12 lakh. Similarly, the Punjab Kings’ leader, Sam Curran. They were penalized half of his match earnings for contravening the IPL Code of Conduct.
Du Plessis and Curran Got Punished
Du Plessis incurred the penalty due to his team’s sluggish overrate during RCB’s defeat against KKR, marking their inaugural overrate infraction in the ongoing IPL 2024 campaign.
“Mr. Faf du Plessis, Captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He has been levied a fine due to the tardy over-rate observed during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This match was against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on April 21, 2024.”

On the flip side, Curran was fined heavily, equivalent to half his match fees, for a Level 1 breach under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. It was related to “expressing dissatisfaction with an umpire’s decision” during PBKS’ narrow three-wicket loss to the Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur on Sunday.
Curran’s transgression constituted a Level 1 violation under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the wrongdoing and accepted the sanctions imposed by the match referee. For Level 1 infractions of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is ultimate and binding,” asserted an IPL media announcement.

Shifting Tides
The PBKS and RCB find themselves stuck in the lowest stage at the point table. Punjab, enduring their sixth defeat within eight matches in the IPL 2024, languishes in the ninth slot. While RCB is grappling with their quintuple consecutive loss this season,. The postseason aspirations of both teams teeter on the brink, with PBKS and Bengaluru confronted with a sixth of matches remaining in the league phase.
In contrast, Kolkata reclaimed their penultimate position following a gripping triumph over RCB, displacing Sunrisers Hyderabad. With a quintet of triumphs within seven matches this season, Kolkata’s resurgence is manifest. The Gujarat Titans managed to rejuvenate their campaign with a conquest against Punjab, vaulting from the eighth to the sixth berth in the points table. They presently tout a quartet of victories within eight games this season.
