At some point towards the end of the NBA Western Conference Finals game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves, some tragic information was shared on Twitter by Shams Charania. Drew Gordon, older brother of Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon, passed away following a car accident at the age of 33.
Drew Gordon spent most of his career playing international ball after a short stint in the NBA in Philadelphia. However, before he laced his shoes as a professional, Gordon learned from some of the best at UCLA and New Mexico.

Drew Gordon played four years of collegiate basketball totaling 101 games between UCLA and New Mexico. Drew started in California with UCLA from 2008-2010. He saw 34 appearances as a freshman before a knee injury cost him most of his sophomore campaign.
Without a clear playing opportunity available, Drew Gordon transferred to New Mexico for the 2011-2013 seasons, where he would find a starting role. Over 60+ games for the Lobos, Drew Gordon averaged a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds per game.
In Drew Gordon’s junior season, the New Mexico Lobos were bounced from the second round of the NIT by Alabama. In his final collegiate season, Gordon would lead his squad to the 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Despite 21 points and 14 rebounds from their senior, #4 seed Louisville would advance with a slim 3-point victory over 5th seed New Mexico.

Just like his current NBA-playing sibling, Drew Gordon did suit up in the National Basketball Association for the Philadelphia 76ers. At the age of 24-year-old, Drew entered into nine games for the 2014-15 Sixers where he averaged 9 minutes a game under the Brett Brown. Gordon averaged two rebounds and almost 2 points a game in that limited duty.
Following his short stay in the NBA, Gordon applied his craft overseas. In 2014, the undrafted forward won an Italian Cup, before being named an All-Star in France following his 2015 year. Gordon most recently played for a team in Japan in 2023.
