The Brooklyn Nets plan to sign Center Nic Claxton to a four-year $100 million contract extension. Claxton was one of the game’s most menacing inside presences during the 2023-24 NBA season as he was 13th in rebounds, fifth in field goal percentage, and eighth in the NBA in blocks. Claxton was set to become an Unrestricted Free Agent this NBA Offseason. Brooklyn signed the 25-year old before he ever got a chance to reach the open market.
Claxton averaged 11.8 points per game this past season to go along with 9.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. How will this contract work out for Claxton and the new-look Brooklyn Nets?

Claxton made his NBA debut in 2019 and has spent the entirety of his career as a member of the Brooklyn Nets. He was drafted 31st overall out of the University of Georgia. He finished ninth in Defensive Player of the Year voting and fifth in Most Improved Player during the 2022-2023 NBA season.
Claxton is a career 10.3 point-per-game scorer to go along with 7.8 boards, and 1.8 blocks per game.
Brooklyn Nets Set To Build Around Claxton
The Brooklyn Nets received a haul just 24 hours ago for franchise cornerstone Mikal Bridges. He was traded for Bojan Bogdanovic and a bevy of draft picks to the cross-town rival New York Knicks. Brooklyn will go forward next season, and presumably even longer, with Claxton and Shooting Guard Cam Thomas as the pillars of the organization.
The Nets have made the most of the compensation package they received when they traded away future hall of famer Kevin Durant in February of 2023. They will presumably look toward a high pick in next year’s NBA Draft with no first round picks in this year’s draft at the time of publication. Without Bridges in the fold for next season, Brooklyn will have a 6’6” hole on their roster.
Brooklyn finished with a 32-50 record this past season. They had one of the league’s worst offenses, but a league-average defense. Claxton will remain in New York for years to come as the Brooklyn Nets look toward a brighter future.
